ARLINGTON, VA Former Senator Bob Dole issued the following statement:
As Chairman of the Bush-Cheney Veterans Coalition, and as a veteran, I call on John Kerry to demand that MoveOn.org take down their ad depicting a defeated American soldier.
Its one thing to debate whether we should take the fight to the terrorists, but depicting an American soldier in effect surrendering in the battle against the terrorists is beyond the pale.
I cannot believe that John Kerry, who reminds us daily of his Vietnam service, would possibly approve the disgusting and demoralizing portrayal of American soldiers fighting for us in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.
John Kerry has raised doubts about our troops' ability to maintain security as well as Iraqi's ability to decide their own future through elections. He has called the allies in Iraq "window dressing." This is all reminiscent of his appearance before a Senate Committee in 1971 where he suggested with nothing but second hand information American GIs were committing atrocities and war crimes of the worst kind in Vietnam.
This defeatist attitude undermines the great progress and sacrifices of our men and women in the military and the contributions of our allies who are fighting against terror and standing up for freedom around the world.
The politics of pessimism that is being pursued by John Kerry and the extreme liberals demonstrates they are consumed by the past with nothing to offer but attacks on the President's agenda for creating a safer world.
John, say it isnt so and denounce this latest effort to divide Americans
"Gad--haven't seen THIS ad. I thought he'd be talking about the Fortunate Son ad."
What's worse is that the American is not surrendering!
As another poster pointed out, when bringing down chopters you would turn your rifle over.
Have we any Americans taken prisoners?
Not that I am aware of.
But it does show the Vietnam mindset of 'moveon.org'which would have the U.S. surrender to terrorism.
"I cannot believe that John Kerry, who reminds us daily of his Vietnam service, would possibly approve the disgusting and demoralizing portrayal of American soldiers fighting for us in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world."
That is the problem.
Guys like Dole, Sean and O'Reilly giving credit to Kerry for being for America, which he is not.
He is, as Ollie North, stated, an anti-American candidate.
Lets hope that Komrade Kerry's picture is never in Baghdad nor Terhan like it is in Nam.
>>He is, as Ollie North, stated, an anti-American candidate.
As I saw it put recently, it used to be that disagreement between Republicans and Democrats ended at the water's edge. Today, Dems side with the UN against Republicans on any international issues, which pretty much means anti-U.S.
I guess that Viagara stuff really works, Bob's grown a pair since '96.
I've always liked Sen Dole...his wife is our Senator and a GREAT one too!!..
I am STILL WONDERING where MCCAINs mouth is, on the TANG memogate and now this.....he was so quick to be out there for Kerry... hes not one of my fav republicans after the way he has stabbed President Bush in the back so many times during this first term... he was good at the convention, but thats about the only thing I can say for him lately..
This point by Dole is a very good point and something I say over and over to people where I live in Canada.
The American military and its coalition (which BTW does include Canadian soldiers who are on scheduled assignments with American forces that our Canadian Government refuses to publically acknowledge - eg. my neighbour returned from CENTCOM in late August) are doing a great job in a very tough situation.
Nobody said it would be easy. But if the American politians have resolve, they may bring peace to an area that has been unstable for many years.
No way, he'll be 84 by then!!
Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry (news - web sites) addresses a campaign rally in Phil Chacon Memorial Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fresh polls show the bitter and volatile presidential race between Kerry and President George W. Bush (news - web sites) was back at a dead heat as the two stepped up their war of words over Iraq (news - web sites)(AFP/Luke Frazza)
Isn't this disgusting that anyone who would want to be President of the United States would not only give aid and comfort to the Viet Cong, but to the Muslim Islamic Extremists as well? This ad is sickening. John Kerry is a traitor.
Play it. Play it far and play it wide. Make sure MoveOn is prominently displayed as a Democrat organization.
My gosh, it really is shocking to see that wrinkled old hag, Ann Richards, isn't tangled in this web.
I haven't been able to see the ad, but from the pictures on Drudge, it looks like this is not necessarily a "defeated soldier"--they're not normally allowed to keep their weapons. Kind of looks like what you would see if a soldier was crossing a river, keeping his weapon dry.
I'd love to trade McCain for Dole, given Dole has found his voice again after being out of the Senate awhile. I swear that place seems to drain the fight from our guys.
Maybe we need to hold an exorcism in the halls of Congress.
Senator Dole, thank you for defending our service men and women and our President!
Its either that or the male-enhancement drugs.
If the latter someone needs to sneak more into the GOP's end of the cloakroom & pass it around among the lads.
Just don't let Barbara Boxer have any.
Why wouldn't he, it has worked for him for the past 34 years.
Note to John, we ain't in Massachusetts anymore!
