I have to sit down and make a chonology but I think he was no longer flying, no longer at the base where they had the planes he was qualified to fly. It was not possible for him to be rated.

You're probably right. Bush flew F-102's and very few, if any, were deployed to Vietman. The F-4 Phantom was the aircraft most widely used there. If Bush had flown F-4's he probably would have been deployed to Vietman.
