I don't think you're overreacting at all. I'm not itching for it by any means, but I'm actually surprised we haven't had a second civil war.
Just wait until after the elections. I think that if *shudder* Kerry wins, we'll grumble and cry and vomit, but (other than that) we'll gut it out. If *yeay!* Bush wins, the Commies (who call themselves Liberals) will throw a hissy fit.
I don't think it'll come to war for sometime, though. People are too content in their everyday lives right now to really go at it. *Somebody* will have to feel that their back is against the wall and they have nothing to loose.
