If won't be necessary if the folks talking about invading a number of other middle east countries drop those ambitions. You are sick. You believe future military action against Iran or Syria if necessary are 'ambitions.'
I lurk at democraticunderground quite a bit, and you are spouting their talking points word for word.
What's next, paranoid lectures about PNAC?

Strictly Democrat talking points in an attempt to scare folks."""
I don't listen to Democrat talking points. But I do read the news about guardsmen being compelled to stay longer than is normal. I also read McCain saying we don't have enough troops in Iraq to pacify Iraq.

That statement tells me you support such "future military action." Well, then I can understand why you support a draft. By the same token, you have to understand why a lot of people worry a draft is coming - - because there are folks like you who are arguing for us to continue with a number of other invasions in the Middle East.
To: churchillbuff
1. Do you think the US should take out Iran, Syria and Lebanon, and maybe Saudi A? 2. If yes, do you think it can be done without a draft? You're so clever. I've been outmaneuvered by your clever rhetoric.
The necessity of such things is a future possibility. Should? Based on what we know now? No.
Do you believe the administration has a laundry list of future conquests, and what proof will you provide?

Pew said their polls originally showed W up big, but that he moved into a tie in the last couple of days. I wonder if Gallup is conducting additional polls to see if they detect the same trend.

Nice dodge, clever strawman. But ultimately a non-denial denial. Didn't McAuliffe send you better stuff than this?

No it was a straightforward question. The invasions that you apparently favor probably will require a draft. At least that's the common-sense worry of a lot of common-sense people.
To: churchillbuff
OK...I'll bite. Sure, if we decide to have a world war, and attack all 191 other countries at the same time, perhaps then we would need a draft. Until then, no need.
I promise to post it here to you first if I hear about plans to attack everybody else. At that time, we can have a realistic discussion about a draft.

Gallup released its last two polls on Fridays.

Sorry, I misread your post. Apparently you DON't necessarily support further invasions, at least based on what we know now. So you're not somebody who's making those arguments. But there ARE a number of folks who are -- and they're doing as much as the Dems to scare people into worrying about a draft.

I hope you have a horse that can eat all these strawmen, refuse companies charge more for extraordinary loads.

A student at my college sent an e-mail forward to the whole campus claiming this, and I replied to the whole campus in a scathing e-mail quoting Snopes.
I have lots of letters in my inbox thanking me for doing so....glad I did.

The reason we have guardsman staying is because we did not create the correct mix of AC/RC units during the 90's as we drew down. We have the wrong TYPES of troops in the guard versus the active component. For instance, almost all our Civil Affairs troops (those who help us work with local civilians) are Guardsman. Therefore, until we can fix that (which we are doing in a hurry), we need to keep those type of soldiers called up on active duty.
That is what GEN Franks, GEB Myers, GEN Abizaid, etc are all talking about when they say we do not need more troops there, we need the right type of troops there.
A draft would not help that.
Moccasin is not a bad guy, and he did serve the military well...a true hero as opposed to JFK. But he was in the Nav--not the Army, was a pilot, and spent most of his career in a prison camp (unfortunately). I trust all the top generals (and their staffs) on this one.
Find me any active duty general...or sergeant major...who thinks we need a draft, or that we are planning a draft...or who want a draft. you can't.
To: Proud Legions
Moccasin = McCain
I hate spell-check sometimes!!
To: churchillbuff
Well the Dems support the draft... as a scare tactic. Me, I think we don't need it. We need to use our air superiority more and stop worrying about the feelings of foriegn governments that already hate and under mine us.

Hmmm. Decorative, but thin and ultimately useless on tough ground. That could be moccasin OR McCain.

Well, here's some news to read then-
Democrats Confuse Voter Registration Form With Draft Notice
NewsMax ^ | 8/24/04 | Carl Limbacher
What's left of South Carolina's Democrat party is so desperate that it is trying to scare potential voters with a fake draft notice. Is that a good idea when some voters these days are too stupid even to draw a simple line? "The first page of the mailing shows a draft notice with orders to report to a military induction center. The next shows a helicopter with troops in the foreground beneath a headline that says 'Officials in Washington are calling for more troops in Iraq.' Below, the mailing asks 'Which form would you rather fill out?'" the Associated Press...
