Marian Carr Knox's story has been shifting fast and furious over the last 3 days, and quite dramatically from a week ago. She seems to add more charges with each interview she gives. Compare: ABC News, Sept 14 CBS News, Sept 16 Dallas Morning News, Sept 15
"He did have complaints about Bush. Bush missed his physical and went off to Alabama with none of the paperwork, I remember Killian talking about that," Knox said. "But it wasn't in memo file."
Did Knox ever hear Killian talk about this, or did he write memos about Bush not taking the physical?
He was upset about it. That was one of the reasons why he wrote a memo directing him to go take the physical, says Knox.
"These are not real," she told The Dallas Morning News after examining copies of the disputed memos for the first time. "They're not what I typed, and I would have typed them for him."
.....
"The information in here was correct, but it was picked up from the real ones," she said. "I probably typed the information and somebody picked up the information some way or another."
Mrs. Knox said that she didn't recall typing a Killian memo alleging that a commander, Col. Walter "Buck" Staudt, was pressuring officers to "sugar coat" Mr. Bush's record. But, she said, such a portrayal of Col. Staudt was consistent with his character and Col. Killian's opinion of his superior officer.
The Drudge Report, Sept 14
"I did not type these particular memos. I typed memos like these," Knox told the DRUDGE REPORT from her home in Houston.
"I typed memos that had this information in them, but I did not type these memos. There are terms in these memos that are not Guard terms but that are Army terms. They use the word 'Billets'. I think they were using that to refer to the slot. That would be a non-flying slot the way we would use it. And the style... they are sloppy looking."
Houston Chronicle, Sept 15
Knox said the subject matter in the documents does, however, reflect sentiments Killian expressed to her at the time.
.....
Knox said she decided to report her recollection of the time period to the media after hearing White House press officials say the information in the memos was false.
She said the military jargon in the documents would be used in the Navy or Army and not the Air Force.
.....
Last week, Knox said she had no firsthand knowledge of Bush's time with the Texas Air National Guard, although she did recall a culture of special treatment for the sons of prominent people, such as Bush and others.
Knox seems to indicate both. (I wonder who's been coaching her that technique?)
Did Killian write these memos, or did Knox type them, or do the forged documents only "reflect sentiments Killian expressed"?
Or is it that the official records tell the truth, and Knox has been coached to lie?
And could it be that in all of their exhaustive research for the story over the course of the last 4 years CBS never contacted Knox?
Is that even feasable for a moment?
If the Houston Chronicle was able to find her and interview her a week ago, one would think 60 Minutes could have as well. Surely they would have found Killian's own secretary to verify the authenticity of memos that she would have typed, right?
Surely with all the research they did in tracking down so many different "unimpeachable sources" who were aware of Killian's feelings at the time, she would have been one of them.
There doesn't seem to even be any of these several witness left after Hodges refuted CBS's characterization, except for Knox who CBS would like us to believe they had not contacted prior to her speaking out to "set the record straight".
CBS's numbers don't add up here.
I believe she was contacted. The only reason they wouldn't have contacted her is if they knew from the start that the documents were forgeries.
I believe she has been involved from the start, one of their original anonymous sources -- sent to CBS by the DNC -- and once the fraud was exposed a nuclear option was drafted. Have her suddenly come forward, only after the cover was blown a full week after the controversy had errupted, and kill the memo story to save the AWOL story.
So they no longer have the memos to prop up their accusations, but now they have the definitive Killian memo expert!
I have a few other questions about Knox's story. How would she know the Army terminology and formatting?
And why is that the only part of her story that has remained consistent in every interview?
Except for one...
She included the Navy once as well.
It seems like there was a deliberate effort to from the bigginning of her miraculous arrival to insist that someone with Army Reserve documentation knowledge was involved. Which conveniently points to Burkett.
Inclusion of the Navy -- John Kerry's branch of service -- was promptly dropped from her act.
Another question I have is if direct orders are ever issued in non-official personal memos. I've never heard of this practice.
I am thinking that Mrs. Knox may be the person who related these "stories" to the memo creator.
I am taking my cue from Zell Miller from now on.
Come now, come now, Mrs. Knox, ma'am,
this is simply more ballocks, ma'am.
It just gets worse, the more Dan talks, ma'am.
Would you buy it with a goat, sir?
What about on a Swift Boat, sir?
What if there's a hand-writ note, sir?
No ma'am, No ma'am, I'm not buying
I think Danny Rather's lying.
I think this is just more crap, ma'am
Please don't take me for a sap, ma'am.
I've had enough now, Mrs. Knox, ma'am.
I'm going to watch the news on Fox ma'am.
not only THAT, but killian's son says she was just a POOL SECRETARY....someone who sat at a desk and worked for a pool of managers...not "right hand man" as she indicated.
Good analysis. It would be nice if somebody in the MSM would call this woman on her lies, but I doubt that's going to happen.
I see you got the point. The forgeries are not even consitent!!! This woman and Dan Blather are both blind men that refuse to see!!
