"Larry Elder was on this yesterday. Washed out of USMC basic, came back and tried again and washed out again. Thus having "joined the military twice."

Not exactlly correct...
Blather enlisted twice but not into the Marines.

If you read my previous post you will get the entire story.

Kelly

Speaking of Marines, I wonder if that real old Marine, Zell Miller, is gonna light up Kerry again soon.

"I mean, to a real Marine, you’re not a Marine – I mean even though you swore an oath and you’re technically on the payroll, you’re not a real Marine until you get out of basic training. And he never got out of recruit training."

So did he washout or not? Sounds like a 2nd washout.

And also after reading this part...

"Still, Rather never disclosed that his Marine service never got him past basic training."

I may be confused, but I think this was the tack that Larry took as well. SUre sounds like a 2 time loser..

It would be very interesting to read or see a report about "Washout Dan"'s two failed experiences in boot camp. Of course Marine basic training is notoriously hard and not for everyone. ("That's why we have an Air Force," one young Marine recently semi-joked.)

Having said that: I'll bet that a few of 72-year-old-Dan's boot camp contemporaries could be found today (although his supervising NCOs may be dead or unable to remember one recruit out of the thousands and thousands they dealt with). I wonder what those old (and TRUE) Marines would say about Dan. Maybe "Kenneth" couldn't do the pushups, but I suspect it instead had to do with psychology.
