John Roberts is a Dan Rather wannabe. He kisses Rather's butt, has great hair and he's Canadian so I guess that gives him the credentials to anchor.

John Roberts presumed that Bush should take CBS's memos seriously, complaining: "The President has yet to weigh in on new documents about his National Guard record made public last week by 60 Minutes." After an audio clip of First Lady Laura Bush saying the memos supposedly written by Jerry Killian "probably are forgeries," Roberts, though every day another news outline undermines CBS's claims, had the temerity to lecture: "However, Laura Bush offered no evidence to back up her claim, and CBS News continues to stand by its reporting."
Roberts also highlighted how Democrats rolled "out a new Internet ad highlighting unanswered questions challenging him to clear the air." Following a clip of a Guardsman at the convention who defended Bush's record, Roberts highlighted a disgruntled brother of a Guardsman, who was killed in Iraq, who claimed his brother died because Bush lied: "For the families of some Guard members, it's not the past that's important, it's the present. Sergeant Sherwood Baker was killed in Baghdad April 26th -- betrayed, his brother claimed today, by a President who went to war on a lie."
Roberts concluded by showing that CBS News is in sync with Democrats: "Democrats plan to keep the issue alive, fighting what they see as an attempt by the Bush campaign to turn the focus from the questions to those asking them."
Remember, 41 embarassed Dan during the '88 campaign? My fuzzy memory is that Dan tried to embarass 41 over an incident, and 41 turned it around on him, asking how he'd like it if his entire career were judged by the 6 or 7 minutes when Dan walked off the show in a tiff.
Not that Rather ever liked Bush, but that was an awful moment for him and really was one of the turning points in the '88 election.
Didn't GHWB give an interview with Rather that turned out really bad, back when GHWB was running for president? GHWB smacked him down on-air or something?
Take another look. John Roberts definitely is right up there with Rather when it comes to buying this fantasy they're trying to spin.
Whether it's against the "Bush family" or just George W. Bush, Roberts is not fair or evenhanded when it comes to the National Guard story.
I often hark back to that outrageous press briefing back in February over this issue. The reporters behaved like snarling wild hyenas, and John Roberts led the pack. It is beyond all reason and real evidence. They just want this story to be true so they act as if it is.
