"A Washington Post reporter's confidential source has revealed his or her identity to the special prosecutor conducting the CIA leak inquiry, a development that provides investigators with a fact they have been pursuing in the nearly year-long probe."
WPost reporter Walter Pincus "instead gave a deposition yesterday in which he recounted his conversation with the source, whom he has previously identified as an "administration official."
Pincus said "I understand that my source has already spoken to the special prosecutor about our conversation on July 12 [2003], and that the special prosecutor has dropped his demand that I reveal my source."
[Excerpt]
"Pincus wrote last October that on July 12, 2003, 'an administration official' told a Post reporter that Wilson, a critic of the Bush administration's foreign policy, was sent to Niger at the suggestion of his wife, a CIA analyst.
"Pincus later publicly revealed that he was the Post reporter."

"But even as Fitzgerald appeared to have reached the end of one investigative thread, he unspooled yet another yesterday, sending new broadly worded subpoenas for documents and testimony to Time magazine and one of its reporters, Matthew Cooper."
Both Pincus and Cooper "said that their conversations with Libby did not touch on the identity of Wilson's wife."

The article mentions: "Fitzgerald had focused on Libby as the possible leaker of Plame's name and identity, but the new subpoenas to Time suggest he may be rethinking that theory. Four reporters have now testified at Libby's urging that he did not disclose Plame's name or identity to them."

More information, from the 9/16 LATimes (I do apologize for posting from these sources, but they seem to be the ones covering the story).

"Cooper's first deposition was limited to conversations he had last year with I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby, chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney."
[Excerpted]
"People familiar with the case said that Fitzgerald now wants to investigate other sources used by Cooper but that the prosecutor has not specified whom."
Cooper has been subpoenaed to testify Sept. 22 about any conversations prior to July 14, 2003, that he had with government officials relating to Wilson, his trip to Africa or Plame.
If it turns out Fitzgerald really has spent all of this time eliminating Libby, who was plainly not involved from the start, I will be completely and thoroughly disgusted.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
Other hmmmm. Well, the source gave the prosecutor the OK, so the prosecutor knows who the source is, and now I don't believe the Post is identifying the source as an administration official anymore.
Also, surprising that Pincus says he was told Wilson was sent by his wife, who is a CIA official, on 7/12, when Pincus had been at Wilson's house on the previous 4th of July weekend (IIRC). I guess Pincus is maintaining that Pincus' wife (who works for State Intel) didn't tell him who Wilson's wife was beforehand, ha ha ha.
When you have a chance I'd like your take on the latest chapter of the Plame/Wilson saga.
You got a real snakepit going on down there. We don't tolerate leakers in Moria.
Plamegate ping.
Who could it be? Pincus wife, Mr. Wilson, Richard Clarke, Joe Blow mid level assistant who spills beans for free lunch, etc. etc.
Nor in Angband, ha ha ha
