Memogate: Did Burkett Tip His Hand?
Retired Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, a long-time Bush-hater who has been named by several news outlets as a possible source for the forged documents in the CBS memogate scandal, wrote the following on August 13, 2004, for Democrats.com, before the memos surfaced:
I have found no documentation from LTC Killian's hand or staff that indicate that this unit was involved in any complicit way to either cover for the failures of 1LT Bush, or to provide him pay or certification for training not completed.
So, if Burkett found no such documentation - did he forge it? And did he then sell CBS a bill of goods, convincing them that the memos were authentic and "accurately reflected" that for which there actually is no authentic documentation? [Hat tip: Mike Hollihan]
Here's a story from today's Washington Post reporting that the forged documents were faxed from a Kinko's in Abilene, Texas, which is the closest Kinko's to Burkett's home 21 miles away in Baird, Texas.
I'll bring you more links later regarding Burkett.

Burnett was hospitalized for depression? Maybe he met Mike Wallace there.

Burkett has been lawyered up for some time now with a democrat lawyer from San Antonio. why?A good question that I can't answer. His lawyer(according to Drudge) is quite the lefty. He's looking for a spot on the TX Supreme Court too.

"Exactly. But, be careful now... people will wonder if you own stock in Reynold's Wrap!"
No kidding. This whole Rathergate is so weird. And I AM beginning to laugh at all my conjecture and theory. Time to catch some sleep :)

CBS execs are NOT stupid, they are just pretending to be.I don't know if the rest of your theory is right or not but arrogance can take you just as far out on a limb as stupidity. (speaking of the CBS execs, of course)

Further down in the Democrat link Burky wrote... "
Documentation of complicitous activity may have surfaced within the flurry of drill training activity following the Alabama period. The exact and irrefutable evidence of such is not convincing, yet to me based upon a review of the same records, though there are serious changes within the methodology employed both at the unit and at State headquarters for 1LT Bush. It could be argued that this could have occurred by a wake up call at all levels sounded by LTC Killians comments and the justifications he would have been required at higher levels of command to make such comments."
Could he be alluding to the fakes?

The REAL perpetrator is someone that Rather and dnCBS would LITERALLY put their careers and the entire dnCBS news organization in jeopardy of collapsing for. Or in Rather's case is blood thicker than water?

..is blood thicker than water? Barnes and Rather's daughter might have teemed up for it:
Oh, and I love this - as if there isn't enough reason to wonder about the bias of Dan Rather and company: Ben Barnes, the Democratic lobbyist and former lieutenant governor of Texas who was featured prominently in the 60 Minutes report that triggered the Memogate controversy, was the co-sponsor of a fund-raiser for a liberal district attorney in Texas along with Dan Rather's daughter, Robin, an Austin-based environmental activist. According to the web site of Ronnie Earle, district attorney for Travis County, Texas, Ben Barnes and Robin Rather were among a the small group of sponsors for an October 3, 2000 fund-raising event for Earle's reelection campaign. In 2001, Dan Rather was the keynote speaker at a Travis County Democratic Party event. He spoke there at the behest of his daughter. Given the closeness of the Travis County, it's very likely that Ben Barnes was at the event. So why hasn't Dan come out and said that his family has close ties with Ben Barnes? I believe a little disclosure is in order Mr. Rather...
