The Poor People’s March for Economic Human Rights
Tim Dowlin, a 23-year-old member of The Poor People’s March, said the group wanted to show support for those affected by Pillowtex’s closing. He said company executives should have warned workers about a possible shut down.
“To have no warning, to not have the opportunity to look for another job, to just show up to work the next day and not have a job, it’s just totally devastating. That’s just down right cold,” Dowlin said.
Kannapolis police received a call around 4:15 p.m. Friday from Atlantic American Properties’ security officers about the protest, said Kannapolis Police Department Lt. Terry Fortson.
“Apparently, they own everything around here,” Dowlin said about Atlantic American Properties.
