I freely admit that I hate being single.

I'm glad I'm married. Dating would scare the crap out of me these days.

I'm a huge MST3K fan; I had no idea that Mike Nelson was a republican. Where did you hear that?

I'm the middle child.
Sis is the youngster of the family at 19.
My brother is 33.
Sis and I often wonder if he really is our brother.
We've also tried to sell him off, almost succeeded.
Mom told us we couldn't do that since shipping costs would be awful.
Besides, they'd return him as being material defective.

oh and here is the direct quote from the interview (forgot to put it in)

nelson: Well, let me say this, I read the National Review cover to cover. Check in at Townhall.com every day. Check the Washington Times daily. Listen to Dennis Prager and Michael Medved on a regular basis. Read Mark Steyn with regularity. Read the Weekly Standard. So, yes, I do vote Republican. As the pundit Hugh Hewitt has observed, there are indeed two Americas: Serious America and Silly America. The Democrats seem bent on turning this into Silly America, so I stick with those who wish this to remain Serious America.

God Bless You for this ping, AZ Karen!

Forget Memogate, this is the most monumentally significant post in the history of Free Republic!

I'd have thanked you sooner, but all the drool on my computer shorted out the power in the southeast for the past 3 days!

Where can I get a BUSH-GIBSON 2004 bumper sticker for my car?

a boken is a wood sword (japanese "bo"+"ken" = "wood/stick-sword"), traditionally made of dense-grain hardwood, used to practice kata (formalized training movements and sequences), suburi (strength training), and kumite (training-fights, or sparring). It is used primarily in kenjutsu (sword fighting) training as part of traditional budo (the martial arts of the Samurai), but is used to a lesser extent in Iaido (lightning draw), Kendo (fencing), and the modern and essentially defensive martial art of Aikido.
The boken I am making is closer to a suburi-to than a kumite boken - it is very heavy, by my choice. I am carving it from a section of a live-oak branch that Francis stripped from one of my trees. I lucked out in that this section's grain almost perfectly matches the ideal curve of a japanese longsword (katana, to, tachi, or no-dachi).
I am rediscovering how much I enjoy manual woodwork, and how soothing to me such work can be.

No, I'm not. I've only recently heard of that site. I have so
much fun picking on my brother here, this place is good enough.

VERY nice!

I never advanced far enough in my dojo to get to the place where i was using weapons, other than my own body ( I've broken my right hip twice and it began having problems again my second year... so i left the school)

NOTHING but admiration and respect for you!

Keep me posted on how it turns out!

Mom still has yet to 'forgive' us for that one.
(If we'd succeeded, she'd likely have been ecstatic over it.)

I just finished it.
Assuming it survives the coming month (as I gradually replace its water content with linseed oil), I believe it is just about perfectly what I intended to make.
