Isn't Cayman a British possession? The US military has no jurisdiction there.

In Grand Cayman? That surprises me. It is a very wealthy island because of all the "banking" businesses. I was there this summer. Expensive place to even eat lunch.

Didn't the United Nations rush to their aid?

We'd like to help, but if we do we'd face criticism from France and germany, and we don't want to go there. Sorry!

Crap on a cranberry! I thought their GOVERNMENT was making a request.

What, this guy thinks GWB in 2004 is an 1898 William Randolph Hearst stooge for his corporation?

Call a Bobby.

"BUT MY AIM IS THAT THIS IS NEVER TO BE MADE PUBLIC ..."

It would be kind of hard to have the American military there and keep it a secret. This poor guy is obviously spooked, but not very realistic. I hope they are able to get things under control soon and start repairing and rebuilding.

The following is the full text of an open letter from Mr Timothy Adam Chief Executive, Cable & Wireless (Cayman Islands) Ltd

And this gives him the authority to ask for US military intervention? Who does he think he is? John Effin Kerry Circa 1972?

Our military is busy enough as it is. Go ask someone else for help. I'm sick and tired of the world criticizing the US but when trouble occurs we're the first ones they run to for help. The 'closed' sign should be hung out for awhile.

Anyone who has been in an area hit by a cat 4 or 5 hurricane understands that civilization basically ends for awhile in the aftermath. That's a tough situation.

If a colony of the UK, our staunchest friend and ally in the WOT, as well as historically, needs temporary help, I'd say we give it instead of selfishly telling them to get screwed (figuratively), as it seem some occupants of this thread are doing.

That said, however, the call for help, if it is to be taken seriesly, needs to come from government authority, either local or from the UK itself.

To hell with them, let their former Euro colonial masters come to their aid.

As the liberals, dems and media whores always scream, we do not need to be the police man of the world. Sarcasm/off

Hey, if I am not mistaken is not the grand Caymens part of Great Britan. If so than why does the good ole U S have to send in troops let the brit's do it. Hell we cant get involved in every rescue in the world our troops are already extended enough. lay off.
