Johnny Ramone, member of punk legends The Ramones, dies at 55
LOS ANGELES (AP) Johnny Ramone, guitarist and co-founder of the seminal punk band The Ramones, has died. He was 55.
Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family, his publicist said. He had battled prostate cancer for five years, and was hospitalized in June at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Ramone, born John Cummings, was one of the original members of the Ramones, whose hit songs I Wanna be sedated and Blitzkrieg Bop, among others, earned the band induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
The bands singer, Joey Ramone, whose real name was Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 of lymphatic cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who was born Douglas Colvin, died from a drug overdose in 2002.
Johnny Ramone founded The Ramones in 1974 with Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and Tommy Ramone, the only surviving member of the original band.
Other shorty faves include any Ween, Devo ("Blockhead"), B-52's ("Planet Claire"), Minutemen ("Toadies" - talk about bass line), and especially the Modern Lovers ("Roadrunner"). They listen to that song over and over again - thank God I love it. In fact, speaking of "Roadrunner" they listen to this Rhino box set with me all the time. I highly recommend it...
Yes, he really was a conservative. Sorry I'm late to this thread, my heart is truly heavy. I was there, back in the day, at CBGBs and other places I was too stoned to remember the venues, but I remember the shows. The Ramones always rocked the house to almost knock it down. It's so good to know there was "one of us" there.
RIP Johnny Ramone. And God Bless America, that has such people in it.
Getting back to the discussion;
At the used CD store, I informed this of this event, I'd call them "kids" but all, at least the non-Hip-Hop set, noted it right away; and I had to grab a Ramones CD.
With all of the discussion, some analysis; etc. 2 decades plus after I first heard the Ramones, it defies explanation/definition to me, even reading the liner notes to this Ramones Mania it has an anecdote that seemingly confirms this. In one of their early auditions they went to at a Club, CBGB in fact, before they were known and the owner Hilly Kristal wasn't sure if this was the band trying out or if a group of hoodlums had wondered in (to fence some stolen music equipment per the notes). They were all dressed in that identical way, leather jackets, t-shirts, ripped jeans & sneakers. They play their set with the 1-2-3-4 in milliseconds between each song; and after they are finished, the owner still wasn't sure if this was the band that came to audition or just a group of hoodlums still; but they got booked to play their.
Unless Electric Garage Door Opener is a band then those analogies are closer.
?
If Electric Garage Door Opener was a band, it won't have been an analogy.
Read your posts on the late, great rock-god Johnny Ramone today, and I have to say that if you were trying to disgust every reasonable person on this site, you succeeded with flying colors.
Notice how NOBODY in over 200 posts, regardless of what else they disagree on, seems to support your irrational, holier-than-thou hatred of Rock and Roll or of Johnny Ramone (a goodhearted and wise Reagan-Republican, BTW).
You remind me of one of those sick, Fascist, Pat Robertson/Jerry Fallwell freaks who thump their Bibles and steal old folks' money to buy themselves LearJets while telling anybody who dares to have a good time in life that they will burn in hell.
God, I can't wait for the day when the last one of you FCC morons dies off, so that my party of true conservatism, INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY, and national strength can be freed of your drag-us-back-to-the-Inquisition influence.
Beware the new generation, motherf***er.
We are South Park, we are hard Rock. We are wise, strong, and patriotic. We're Republicans without strings, and we're coming to claim OUR party.
Beware of your own selves. You have already helped to ruin the best country on earth.
I am old, but that's OK, because I will be long dead and gone when the mess your kind has made of this country becomes apparent even to the densest of you.
Oh and by the way: I am an atheist.
But one does not need to believe in god to study the history of the decline and fall of nations and culture.

Ahh, cute one. But one does not have to believe in God or a god to have a distressingly uptight, holier-than-thou, censorship-to-save-"the kids" attitude like your own; just as one can believe in God (I am a Christian, and a believer in the Lord's love and salvation), but not buy into the whole "Rock, pot, sex and naughty language will destroy our precious children" garbage.
And YOU are still a fossil, which is an attitude and not an age.
"This movie has warped my fragile little mind!" -Cartman.
We are all fossils--human nature is slow to change: a generations or two is not enough.
