The President's people need to "just say no" to CBS moderators in the debates. Let Brit Hume do it.
Assuming there are intelligent adults at CBS, they have fallen on a grenade to protect Kerry.
I think you are right in that CBS did not expect the whole thing to blow up in their face. People at CBS and their confederates (Harkin, McCauliffe etc.???) had not banked on the "Freepers" getting all over them.
Now that they have been busted Dan must pretend the memos are authentic or he would have to reveal his sources and the conspiracy. I also think good ole fashion hubris is getting the best of Dandy Dan. He thinks he can just tough it out. I think he is wrong.
Do you know who it was who asked Bush to aplogize to the country?
Answer: It was Dan Rather's "hair apparent" to the anchor's chair, John Roberts of CBS.
I agree with your suspicion that "more is afoot". It seems clear from the preponderance of evidence that CBS is a full-fledged covert partner of the DNC. Getting less "covert" all the time.
I read on one of the hundreds of threads here on FR that this is a lie too, since they military didn't start testing for drugs until approx 1980.
All Bush has to say is the documents are phony
next question.
interesting post
there clearly appears to be an intended or tacit synchronicity between the DNC - mcawful unlawful - harkin harking - blather memo bombs and kitty kelly on cocaine to put the cherry on the top with sheifer shilling
But what makes you think there will be a Debate moderated by a CBS anchor?
The White House hasn't agreed to that.
Not fatal??? It sucked the life-blood out of his campaign, he is gasping for air, and all evidence reveals no brain function.
It's Mapes--she's the one they're circling the wagons around. She interviewed Burkett and saw the original forgeries. Burkett gave her copies, which were then faxed to the home office, but she saw that there were "originals". I believe she is Rather's unimpeachable source, based on the fact that she saw the original forgeries. She didn't know they were forgeries at the time. That's my take.
Burkett is a retired Army National Guard systems analyst. He knows his way around a computer and he knows his way around a military style memo. And he had a motive.
I really think that Dan Rather is running the whole network over there. Andy Heyward just shows up 5 days a week to hand his testicles in a lockbox over to Dan before assuming his place in the Janitor's closet.
Rather has been marginalized by the internet for years in the same way that the main stream press was able to attack Nixon.
Payback time for Mr. Rather.
"Thank you for that question, Bob.
Unfortunately I am unable to comment on this matter at this time as it is part of an ongoing criminal investigation into who constructed the clumsly, libelous, forgeries on which your erroneous and invalid questions are based.
We expect to clear this matter up with several indictments in the next few days. Why are you sweating Bob?"
Because Robin Rather is the source for the forged documents.
This whole guard memo scandal has accomplished what the Kerry campaign most needed at the time. To divert attention away from Kerry's record and back to Bush's. Much like a fighter who has been up against the rope and is getting groggy from being so consistently punched, Kerry needed a break and this provided just that break. Lately all the news has been about Bush and Kerry has been able to play offense again. It was brilliant. But we need to put the focus back on Kerry and HIS record, in and out of Vietnam!
"Offense vs. Defense.
I've switched sides more than a few times trying to decide on how to answer this question and I've settled on offense.
Great defensive skills make a better fighter! However, judges rarely award points on defense. Judges do not know the meaning of ring generalship, anyone who saw the Christy Martin vs. Belinda Laracuente can attest. Unlike team sports where defense prevents the opposing team from scoring, in boxing it does not.
In boxing a great defense will lessen your chances of getting knocked out or injured but a great offense will always win you the fight."
