Can you imagine anyone with much skill doing this bad a forgery? Doing it on Microsoft word? If you are 50 years old or older how do you fail to remember that computer printers are not typewriters? If you are in your 20s don't you research what was in use in 1973? Would I try to take a picture of a guy in 1973 by having him sitting in a 1976 car?

This whole thing does not ring true.

The more I think about this the more I think this must be some sort of setup or con act. I wonder if someone really hates Rather. Perhaps a former employee of CBS news. Could it be that CBS bought the story? Could CBS have had Rathers daughter offering to buy dirt on Dubya?Could someone think hey a half hour's work at Kinkos and a pitch to Rathers daughter, would be followed by smome cash from Rather? What else explains the story? Could Kerry have been offering bucks for dirt on Bush and an enterprising Word user... decided to try to make a few bucks?... and they fell for it?

What if the Kerry Campaign was trying to buy dirt on Bush .. and bought a forgery. What if the Kerry people vouched for the fake Documents being valid. Would Rather believe a top Kerry staffer over his own hired experts?

It appears Rather fell for some sort of Con, and is now between a rock and a hard place.

Something has to explain CBS buying these very sloppy forgeries. The source had to be very very believable to CBS.

Perhaps the rush to document was a CYA move.

The assumptive credibility networks rely on eroded long ago, and they're just getting the idea in this cycle.

The swiftvets and other stories cannot be generated and/or manipulated as they have been for decades.

Regardless of the culprit, CBS' pants are down, worldwide.

Hey, I'm barely 34 and I learned to type on an IBM Selectric. That was in '84. These guys may not be dumb, but they lack common sense.

This one is bad, even Chris Matthews said tonight on Hardball that he felt that Burkett was delusional

You are on to something here. I do think Bill Burkett is the source but I do not think CBS would have taken his word for it. Someone higher up on the food chain would have had to say these are good documents. It would appear to me that the DNC has been putting leaking the documents to selected sources (not the media at first) to get them talking about Bush's record and then it went to CBS via someone very high in the DNC.

I have noted an absolute silence from the DNC on this subject, nor has the mainstream media sought to even ask the DNC about it.

I love the smell of burning liberal media in the morning. It smells like VICTORY

I think your all wrong. I believe the arrogance of Rather is so great he never considered that he would get caught. He is so used to giving us lies every night without repercussions, that this one was just going to slide in with all the rest.
