There needs to be a new feature on FR. And I'd be happy to design it and pay for it. We need a "beep" feature, so that users can go to sleep near their computers but if something hot happens the story (decided by the webmaster) would generate a beep on your computer.
It was the same in the days of the old wire services. Certain level stories made bells ring in the copy office. (hence the term bell ringer).

Robin Rather
Environmentalist

Having lived or worked in a number of seriously UN-liveable cities such as Washington DC and San Jose, Robin Rather now spends most of her free time looking for ways to enjoy and protect Austin's quality of life.

As a community activist, she serves as an Executive Board Member of the Central Texas Regional Visioning Project, a board member of the United Way and the Austin Idea Network. She lives near Zilker Park with her husband, musician David Murray and their fine son Andy.

Robin Rather has more than 20 years of experience in the high tech field as a senior executive at Mindwave Research, Reality Research, CMP Media (publishers of Information Week and Internet Week), IntelliQuest and International Data Corporation.

Robin also serves as an environmentalist and community activist. She is a Vice President of the Hill Country Conservancy, on the advisory board of Environmental Defense, and Director of Research and Communications for Liveable City. Previously she was elected three times as Chair of the Save our Springs Alliance.
