""We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."
OH....the lawyers must have been arguing over the wording and chose "memos were ACCURATE.." not that the memos were not fraudulent or fake, but that the content was ACCURATE..
So. cBS is all but admitting the memos are FAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!

I think CBS just added more fuel to the fire. First, this didn't "clarify" a thing, and second, they seem to have dug in for the long haul when Rather should be offering his resignation.
To: Ichneumon
Yep, they did, via thinly veiled implication. But since then, nothing else so far I think ...

Hey, Jr. Powell
Isn't this enough to revoke SeeBS FCC license?

CBS is paying its lawyers a gazillion dollars an hour to come up with lame excuses like this.
They tried to polish a turd, so that's what they got.

'questions are being raised about the how the blogger raised questions so soon after the broadcast' Because CBS put the documents up on THEIR website for ALL TO SEE THEM

Rather seems willing to try and save his skin at the expense of the network.
He just wrote their obituary.

That's a great point --- the use of the word "accurate" rather than "authentic" which is the word they've used all along. Very significant change.

I just had visions of Walter Cronkite on election night, never to be seen again on the evening news. Deja vu

Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
