I have seen almost no follow up on the 60 MinutesII interview with former Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes.
Barnes stated that a Bush family intermediary, Houston businessman Sidney A. Adgar (now deceased), requested that Barnes help George W. Bush get into the TANG.
Barnes then stated he called TANG Director, Brig. Gen. James Rose, and arranged for Bush's acceptance into TANG.
Barnes then stated he had helped sons of other prominent Texas families to enter the TANG with the continuing help of Gen. Rose.
The next day, Barnes' daughter stated to FOX's Sean Hannity that her father told her in 2000 that he had not helped Bush.
Does anyone know if: (1) Brig. Gen. James Rose is dead? (2) Barnes has been asked for the names of the other young men he helped to get into the TANG? (3) Contemporaries of Sidney Adgar and Gen. Rose have been quizzed about their knowledge of these criminal acts alleged by Barnes?

I think Barnes' daughter calling him a liar pretty much killed that story quick.
I mean, how embarrassing is that? Your own daughter?
Frankly, I haven't sense that anyone has taken his story seriously. He betrayed himself because he's a fundraiser for Kerry, and because he said he helped Bush get into the ANG when he was Texas' Lt. Gov., yet Bush was already in the Guard when Barnes became Lt. Gov.
Barnes used to get his tang on the 14th floor of The Dobie until marrying an older rich widow with three children. A Kerry wantabe.
Can someone please point me to a record of that quote.
I'd read that he testified to the opposite in 1999...under oath (don't have a link to the news story or FR thread).
It has been testified by the higher ups in the TANG that there was NO waiting list to get into the Air Guard. There was a waiting list to get into the National Guard, but there were not that many people at the time qualified to fly planes who wanted to be in the air guard to warrent a waiting list.
Man oh man, those democrats! They sure know how to USE those dead people!
They get them to vote democrat and NOW type memos!
1. Barnes was Lt. Gov. of Texas from 1969-1973. I'm having trouble understanding how he got Bush into the guard in 1968.
2. You can jump ahead of a line of 150 people waiting to be in the guard, simply by applying to a specialty job. And a pilot is certainly one of those positions.
3. Ben Barnes was run from office during a scandle that involved nearly the entire administration of the governor of texas at that time.
I do know that in the 60's, it was very difficult to get into the FLA NG, unless you knew someone pretty important. I think it had a lot to do with a small number of billets, and a large number of people that did not want to go to VietNam.
I forgot the network, but recently there were 2 high ranking TANG officers who stated that Bush did not jump to the head of the line. There was a waiting list for the TANG, but not for pilot trainng. Many of the applicants could not pass the physical or educational requirements.
Not to mention that Barnes claimed that during his term as Lt Gov was when he helped Bush get into ANG. Problem with that is Bush entered ANG in 68 and Barnes term started in 69. Oops, another CBS/Barnes lie.
Barnes was the 29 year old Speaker of the House (Texas Legislature) when he claims to have helped Bush.
