UPDATE FROM KERRY SPOT: CBS to talk to Knox (Killian Secretary)
The Kerry Spot ^ | 09/15/04 | jim geraghty

UPDATE: I have now heard from more than one source that CBS is going to talk to 86-year-old Marian Carr Knox, former secretary to Lt. Col. Jerry Killian. Hey, I think it's great to hear CBS might quote someone who says the memo is fake (other than Marcel Matley, their first expert, who said he could not authenticate it).

CBS appears to be counting on a 86-year old declared partisan to fish their bacon out of the fire. Their new line is going to be: These documents may not have existed in the form given to CBS News; However we think the overwhelming evidence supports our claim that these were the thoughts of Lt. Col. Jerry Killian at the time.

It's still forgery and fraud.

Exactly. The angle will be, "This story is true. We do not even need these memos to prove it."

Great!!

I hope that CBS keeps this story alive for another month.

President Bush is within a few points of John Kerry in New York, and the whole electorate seems to be shifting his way.

This story can only serve to enrage open-minded voters about mainstream media and the dirty DNC/Kerry campaign, and discourage the rabid partisans.

Nice strategic move, switch from forgeries to heresay. Building deniability.

so it's the assumption of an old secretary of what she believes is a dead man's intent?

Is this from the Onion?

Yep. The more this lingers, the more Kerry stays trapped in the jungles of Vietnam.

I'm starting to have flashbacks to 2000 -- all that "intent of the voter" crap.

Ben Barnes was Lt. Governor in 1969.
Bush was in the Guard in 1968.
That isn't on a memo, and still hasn't been squared.
That makes the story blatantly false. They can't stick by the story, because the foundation crumbles with a google check.

Wonder which story she'll use..that these are just versions of memos she typed, she heard Killian say them but someone else typed the original memos or she had no first-hand knowledge of Bush and everything she heard was just scuttlebutt...hmmm...my guess is the first one...and I'm also guessing they won't address the stupidity of why someone with the ORIGINAL memos would feel the need to have create new versions instead of using the original ones..

Oh brother this just means that CBS are planning on spinning their forgeries into hearsay.

Pathetic.

How in the world did CBS ever become a respected news establishment???

The RATS have something up their sleeves that we have to be missing. No one, I mean no one can be this stupid.

If this lady doesn't read the script, CBS will spike the story. CBS has already shown the world that the truth doesn't matter unless it promotes the agenda.

What they are trying to do is divert attention from the authenticity of the memos to the accuracy of the info. Knox says that the memos are fake, but that they reflect documents that used to exist. I previously suspected that Knox was the source. However, if this is the case, then CBS has a bigger problem. Even their own source says that the documents are fake. In this case, "they're fake, but..." doesn't cut it.

The "discovery" of the secretary simply screams that CBS did not do their homework. Documents from that era were always typed by a secretary or a typing clerk. Why didn't CBS look for Killian's? It would have actually helped their case. Pathetic journalism by CBS.

She is just going to be used -- remember, it's the content and the meaning is there - she said that yesterday.

She hates W -- called him a "selected" not elected President.

I read earlier today that this old lady was in a typing pool and not Kilian secretary - this according to Killian's son.

She also never met President Bush and couldn't comment on his service. However, she did comment that the memos contents were true - AGAIN, not because she knew of President Bush but because that's what all the rich kids parents did back then.

Is CBS placing their hopes on her now????

E.D. on Fox & Friends this morning said this woman has supposedly said in the past that GWB was "Selected not Elected".
Just another partisan source.
