Btw, does anyone remember the Dateline NBC segment where they had some car explosion or roll-over that was rigged?

I'm wondering which network can actually claim to own this (as all of the major ones probably could lay claim to it):

Yes!!! It was the fabricated story about General Motors late 1970's pick-up trucks with their exploding "side-saddle" gasoline tanks that they added their own pirotechnics to enhance the sensationalism.

I own one of them 1976 GMC trucks and love it!!! CA's MTBE gasoline eating through the fuel lines was WAY MORE dangerous, thanks to the NRDC forcing the use of this poisonous to drinking water fuel additive!!!

As I recall, that had to do with Chevy/GMC pick-up trucks with side-saddle gas tanks. IIRC Dateline over-filled the gas tanks until fuel was splashing out, left the gas caps off, and employed a "sparking device" (model rocket engines) to get the desired effect.

As I recall it was some sort of incendiary rocket attached to the gas tank of a Chevy pick-up truck to make sure it exploded on camera. But I digress! Don't forget ABC's Food Lion report a few years back where "journalists" got jobs in the meat department and thay were the ones who salted in the outdated meat, not the Food Lion employees as the TV "journalists" claimed. And then wasn't there some woman "journalist" who put together some whopper lie about B-52 bombers. I'm fuzzy on that one.

But in all those cases the stories faded never to be heard from again unlike Abu Garrib, Bush's Guard service, Iran Contra etc. etc.. Gee I wonder why that is!
