A medical cause for 'Bushisms'? (Repulsive Boston Globe article)
Boston Globe ^ | 9/14/04 | Alex Beam

I searched for this, apologies if posted already.

I won't dignify the article by quoting the whole thing, but here are some excerpts:

A medical cause for 'Bushisms'?

It is an article of faith with millions of Americans, most of them on the left, that George W. Bush is stupid. Many reasonable people think his policies are ill-advised, but millions more insist Bush must be a moron because he sounds stupid.

The president's tortured "Bushisms" are chronicled daily and have been collected in books. Two of the more notorious are "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family" and "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."

But something doesn't compute. Fred Smith, the founder of Federal Express and a Yale pal of both Bush and John Kerry, says Bush is five times smarter than people think he is. Cynics deride what passes for scholarship at the Harvard Business School, but the course work for the two-year MBA isn't easy. A grading curve forces a small number of students to fail, and Bush didn't fail.

So why does Bush sound stupid? One doctor thinks he shows signs of "presenile dementia," or an early onset of Alzheimer's disease.

This summer, Joseph Price, a self-described "country doctor" in Carsonville, Mich., was reading a long article in The Atlantic about Bush's speaking style. Author James Fallows alluded to Bush's malapropisms and to speculation that Bush had a learning disorder or dyslexia. But those conditions generally manifest themselves in childhood. Furthermore, Fallows wrote, "through his forties Bush was perfectly articulate."

Dr. Price's children happened to have given him a daily tear-off calendar of "Bushisms" for Christmas. "They are horrible, but they are also diagnostic," Price says.

No reputable doctor would dare to diagnose a patient without examining him. This is nothing but a bucket of partisan swill, and the Globe should be ashamed to publish this garbage. The Globe's ombudsman's email address is ombud@globe.com.

Does the Globe draw any conclusions from the fact that elder stateman and ex-Prez Jimmah Carter pronounces nuclear the same way Bush does (nuke-you-lar)? I doubt it.

The leftmedia and it's sycophants just make it up as they go. Nothing new. Facts don't matter -- lies are the mother's milk of Marxism.

All I can say is, for a guy who's supposedly so "stupid", he sure kicks their asses at every turn. The lefties never learn. So who's really the stupid ones?

inexcusable, for both the "Doctor" and the "newspaper". Although considering the Boston Globe's difficulty in accurately reporting what their "experts" say who knows what the real story is.

When will they get it?

Bush 'rope-a-doped' Richardson.
Bush 'rope-a-doped' Gore.
Bush will 'rope-a-dope' Kerry.

Between someone who talks stupid and someone who acts stupid, commend me to the former.

At the Globe site, the Web ad over this article offers a "Free IQ test". Maybe they need it. Interesting how quickly the White House sent the 2001 and 2003 medical reports to the author. Still waiting for Clintins - and I bet Kerry hasn't released any either.

I heard once that Bush got better grades at Yale than Kerry. Does anyone know for sure?

I don't see a problem with "Bushisms." After four more years, we likely will have a few pages of new words added to the dictionary. They continue to misunderestimate at their peril.

I'm very bad at "Bushisms" and I have a condition related to dyslexia. I've heard various opinions as to whether the condition may affect the bushisms. Neil Bush is dyslexic. I wonder if Bush might have something funny related to dyslexia. I also can't figure out why the suggestion the president may have dyslexia is considered so out-of-bounds. It says nothing wrong about him, but helps explain the Bushisms.

How does one determine if somebody is 4 or 5 or 6 time smarter than people think he is?

I think as you get older you are a little slower in delivery. Maybe Bush does have a bit of learning disability. He is very focused when he talks and uses very few if any vocalized pauses. He speaks daily 8 to 10 hours per day. I'm sure you slip up. I'm from Chicago. The former and current Mayor Daly's have put their foot in their mouths dozens of times.

But consider this, and those of you out there who have witnessed this should comment.

I have never seen the President in person, but of course I have seen his campaign stops on TV. What intrigues me is his ability to remember names. He starts every speech thanking and acknowledging those around him. I know he uses front men, but I rarely see him using notes.

Must be a natural talent. Reagan, when younger, did this too.

Anybody else out there notice this?

The only reason there are "Bushisms" is that microphones follow him wherever he goes. ANY of us would soon be creating a roster of "isms" if everything we said in public was recorded and analyzed. This whole thing has always been total tripe.

What I like most about the "Bushisms", especially after Bush wins the election in a landslide, is how IT DRIVES THE LIBS NUTS!!!

The sublime beauty of the "Rope-A-Dope" strategy is that the Donks have such a overarching need to appear superior, that they cannot fathom how somebody could not strive to look as intelligent as possible at every opportunity. The notion that the President might be suckering them into a trap simply never occurs to them because the thing they fear more than anything else in the World is appearing stupid, and they assume everyone else has the same dread.

It appears that the President does not really care a great deal about how intelligent most people think he is. He is content to do his duty, transform the American political landscape, and kick the Donks around the block on a regular basis.

Strategery!
