I am informed that the head of a CBS affiliate in a large East Coast city is telling viewers who call in that he wants Rather to apologize on 60 Minutes and then resign. This local network official reportedly plans to present the flood of critical emails he has been getting to the network heads in New York.
I suspect this gentleman is not alone.
"Letting Danny Boy quietly resign before we learn the truth of the probable DNC connection lets Kerry off the hook."
I hope Kerry -does- get off the hook. No, I'm not kidding.
If Kerry gets off the hook, he'll lose. Bush is an excellent debater, and he always surprises people in a good way when he does them. There's very little chance in my mind that he'll lose his lead. Barring anything explosive (literally), he'll win. I have little doubt of that.
But this is too big. If Kerry goes down over -this-, he'll almost have to drop out of the race. And then the Democrats will try to pull a Toricelli move.
I'm actually not that worried about She Who Shall Not Be Named getting the top spot. She'd lose. I know kool-aid liberals who despise Bush but they wouldn't vote for Hillary if you paid them. And God knows conservative turnout in -that- matchup would be 100% just to stop her getting into office.
Worst case? They just bump up Edwards to the top spot. He has very low negatives and Bush would have no chance to define or deconstruct him, after years of Dems lying to deconstruct Bush. In -that- scenario, I could see Bush lose.

I agree! FR and Fox provide more than adequate coverage of the Rather Crisis.
We have nicer Pajamas.
As conservatives we have ooooodles of money to spend of the finest silk pajamas, fine smoking jackets and leather slippers.
In fact its more like a pajama party at the playboy mansion.
