If CBS had contacted her before it ran the story, and shown her the memos, she could have saved them a lot of embarrassment. They could have deep-sixed the memos and just gone on her word that Bush had missed a physical and that Killian thought Staudt was pressuring him. Dan Rather would have his hit piece on Bush and there would be no "forgery" fol-der-al to distract from the issue and destroy Rather's credibility.
It is interesting to see how CBS/Dems will try to spin her story. I know there is some confusion at the DU. Some are saying she really did type them, but forgot due to old age.
On the other hand, some are trying to spin this as being abour what Killian really thought...
but what we're left with is hearsay about what Killian really thought from a Bush-hating secretary, which is refuted by Killian's own family.
My guess is that she was contacted before on the subject and was even the source of the original allegation, but could never corroborate her statements.
Yes,..but, I rather (no pun intended here) like the way this is playing out. I hope it continues for another 5-6 weeks.
