Up until last week, if we were ever on the same thread, I really don't remember.But you are now a folk hero.

I know FR is an aggregate & interactive endeavor, but you were a catalyst in this particular episode.

Speaking as a long-time Freeper, I'd like to say that you have exactly the right attitude. It's our collective knowledge that gives us the edge over the Old Media.

Long ago, I assigned myself the task of media tracking here on FR. I stay in the background for the most part, contributing where I can. An excellent example of this sort of thing is the poster governsleastgovernsbest, who specializes in The Today Show (and has recently branched out to other Nitwork "News" shows). I've seen a few Freepers let their egos go to their head in the years here on FR, but you're obviously not the type.

In that note, allow me to offer congratulations on your recent notoriety! ;-)

CBS did what it always has done: It produced and broadcast a highly polished segment in which the argument was magisterially framed to its advantage, with the facts favorable to CBS cherry-picked for presentation while annoying contrary facts were ignored. Carefully edited prime-time-quality interviews of their supposedly authoritative expert witnesses were laid in. The whole package was opened, narrated and concluded with dignified contempt for their victim by their star asset, Uber-anchor Dan Rather. Enough said. Full stop. Next matter. Long live the King.

Once more, 15 Swordfish (slow, canvas-covered biplanes) struggled up from the pitching deck of the Ark Royal for their last chance at the Bismarck. The big British ships were too short of fuel to go much further, and by morning the Bismarck would be within its longed-for air cover umbrella. The tired anti-aircraft gunners aboard Bismarck put up as good a curtain as the violent seas allowed. It wasn't good enough. Again, the flimsy structure of the Swordfish probably helped them to get in close enough for their runs. Only two torpedoes struck the Bismarck. One hit amidships, as before, and as before caused no appreciable damage. One struck aft and destroyed the steering engine room. The rudders were turned 15 degrees to port, and now nothing could move them. The big ship had three propellers, and could steer with them to a certain degree, but had to go much slower.
