Former secretary says she didn't type memos 04:10 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 14, 2004
By PETE SLOVER / The Dallas Morning News
HOUSTON The former secretary for the Texas Air National Guard colonel who supposedly authored memos critical of President Bushs Guard service said Tuesday that the documents are fake, but that they reflect real documents that once existed.
Marian Carr Knox, who worked from 1956 to 1979 at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, said she prided herself on meticulous typing, and the memos first disclosed by CBS News last week were not her work.
These are not real, she told The Dallas Morning News after examining copies of the disputed memos for the first time. Theyre not what I typed, and I would have typed them for him.
Mrs. Knox, 86, who spoke with precise recollection about dates, people and events, said she is not a supporter of Mr. Bush, who she deemed unfit for office and selected, not elected.
I remember very vividly when Bush was there and all the yak-yak that was going on about it, she said.

they also figured it would be the perfect crime since Killian was no longer alive.
What utter dirtballs.
Funny how the MSM breathlessly reported allegations from the "memos" of a dead man, but angrily dismissed sworn affidavits from over 250 living SwiftVets.
Sure, some in the MSM are NOW lowering the hammer on CBS... but that comes only after the Blogosphere forced their hand... and not before days of breathlessly repeating the CBS allegations.,
I think it was a "plausibilty" smokescreen for an attempt to steal the election vias massive vote fraud. It would need some help from "push polls", to keep the perception of a close race. But I think the sceme was set in motion before the legitimate polls started opening up in favor of Bush.
According to the article, an old mechanical Olympia, which was replaced by an IBM Selectric in the early 1970s. She says the Olympia had a "th" key. But of course neither could do proportional spacing.
After today, you bet 'yer booties she is, although I'm sure the old gal doesn't know it yet.
I have come to where I despise Dan Rather. I was already there with Peter Jennings after the Battlefield Ethics video of years ago. I didn't respect Rather because of Rather Biased's work, but now I am certain that Rather is just a hack.
Consistent.
She remembers what was on a memo 30 years ago...?
lol, that's sick!
Maybe she didn't type them back then, but dictated them to Dan's daughter a couple of weeks ago! I guess that's just as good as the originals. LOL!
If she came forward and said how much she loved President Bush then the DIms would say she's senile.
yup... Dimwit talking points:
unfit for office and selected, not elected.
To quote one of my favorite "Fun" films..
oh this just keeps getting better and better!!
One thing about it, there does seem to be SOME integrity on the side of those who will not or do not support our president. That's all that anyone can really ask for.
"And yet, Killian's wife and son have said he loved Bush."
Who ya gonna believe, people who lived with the guy and knew him or some dimwit secretary? CBS would choose the secretary. She fits the story better.
Good catch. You really have to read between the lines on these news stories.
Kerry.
"The memos, if real, would show that as a pilot, Mr. Bush defied a direct order to obtain a flight physical, enjoyed the benefit of pressure from high officials to sugar coat his record, and was grounded for failing to meet military performance standards."
Even if that is all 100% true - so what?
No pilot ever missed a physical?
Nobody in the NG at the time went there to avoid combat?
No soldier ever received unfairly favorable reviews?
Who cares? This whole thing is a total non-issue and will have virtually no effect on the election at all. Its just a bunch of name-calling versus the Swifties debate which is about actual collaboration with the enemy during time of war."
Absolutely correct!
Yet, the DNC cannot figure out why Kerry is getting killed by the Swifties and this NG stuff doesn't hurt Bush
They do not understand DIFFERENCES
1. Kerry is a traitor and liar
2. Bush isn't
Now how simple is that to comprehend?
Personally, I believe her statement that she didn't type the memos, however, I do think she was coached as to how to respond to the allegations contained therein. I seriously doubt any military officer would have ever asked his secretary to type up documents such as these for a personal "cover your back" file.
A good manager NEVER shows this type of stuff to anyone, they are personal notes. If he didn't type then, they would have been hand written, and not shown to anyone, including his secretary. Too easy for a secretary to use that information against the boss if she later had a disagreement, didn't like her own performance review, etc.
As a supervisor I kept files like this, but not even my secretary knew I had them, and only I had the keys to the cabinet. I would purge these files soon after the employee left my employ. Given all the comments everyone who knew Killian has made about him and his relationship with then Lt. Bush I seriously doubt there would have been notes with the tone reflected in these memos. I also seriously doubt he would have kept personal files on Bush (if there were any) until the time of his death in 1984. Any personal notes would have been destroyed by Killian himself long before.
I've got one lefty friend I'm working on. It's like banging my head into a wall. I blame the parents and the state of Minnesota for her silliness.
Is it possible that Kevin Bacon could have typed the memos?
