I have been puzzled for some time about the motivation for releasing and publicizing the blatantly forged CBS memos. With all due respect to us, we are not exactly professionals and we spotted the forgeries in a "New York Minute!" Why?

I think I know now. The Kerristas knew the Swifties' October Surprise was coming and that it would be based upon documents from the late 1960's and early 1970's. Further, they knew, as I suspect, that these documents would have questionable provenance (they would have to since Kerry never signed the "Form 180 [?]"). Now we have spent a week trashing the CBS documents and generally raising doubts about any "mystery document" from that time frame. I think the Kerristas planned to turn our arguments against us. They needed a media proponent from the documents who could afford to loose some credibility - to take one for the team, as it were. Who better than a superannuated news anchor who is on the eve of retirement and wants nothing more than to announce the defeat of W before riding off into the sunset? Rather has to stick by these documents just to keep us talking about them and to keep the story in the press, raising continuing concerns about old documents.

By the way, is my tinfoil hat on straight?

It gets worse: I think whoever forged these documents figured they had to be plausible (hence the information gleaned from the already released Bush documents) but also had to be hokey enough to raise our suspicions right away. I think they figured on uproar for a bit then the authentication of the documents would fall rapidly apart as the provenance, content, and timing came into question. I do not think they figured on the whole font/kerning/MS Word line of attack.

Because the documents were proved forgeries by these font-related issues, I think the Kerristas may yet be hoist on their own collective petard. If the Swifties' documents look genuine and have genuine signatures, they will now be much more difficult to attack. If you can show the typeface, formatting, etc. are time-frame appropriate, the provenance will be less of an issue. This is the first hypothesis on motivation for the CBS documents that would explain the poor quality of the documents and the timing (immediately pre-October Surprise).

Any documentation the SBV for Truth use will be a copy of Government forms that can be readily verified by getting another thru the FOIA. They won't play the "we won't provide the origial nor the source" crap. Remember these guys are HEROS they don't fight from sniper towers. The do it honorably, out in plain sight. That is why the MSM is eating crap over it.

Kerry is done, he is staying out of the line of fire for fear the more he pisses them off the larger the barrage they will target him with.

I think your conclusions about how the documents were constructed is probably true. The forger had to dovetail the new information with the old.

But ... Hate clouds your judgment. Dan's judgment is shot and his partisan side has taken over. He has given speeches at dim fundraisers.

Sprinkle in a little arrogance and viola, ka-boom. Dan thought enough of his own abilities, he has pulled off the lies before, so full speed ahead.

One thing that comes to mind is the way cBS and Dan Rather lied about the AW ban. Showing full auto firearms being shot and telling people these dangerous guns were being banned. Total lies, but he sold it to a lot of the public.

Time changes technology faster than people can keep up. Dan has lost the race. Message to MSM, we won't be fooled anymore, so keep your lies in the back rooms.
