Since I'm only 52 I'm not old enough to remember such things. ;-) The turning point seems to have been Viet Nam. The anti-War/anti-American left took the DNC over since those days, and they have done little to shake off thier worst ideas.
Actually I think Kennedy and Johnson would be destressed to see today's DNC. Both of those men were liberal for their days, but would probably be closer to today's Republican Party than they are to todays Democrats.
"Well I am old enough to remember a time when Democrats actually wished our country well...peace, prosperity, world stature, etc. Even when they weren't in power. At least I think they did, but maybe it was all just an illusion?!"
Funny. My kids are 9 and 11 and want to know what a Democrat is. They say there are two parties; the Republicans and the Liberals.
I don't know what to call what's going on around my little town, but "recession" isn't quite the word I was looking for. There are three big new subdivisions going in, a new water filtration plant (after having built an entirely new sewer-treatment facility), and several businesses are expanding the size of their buildings.
Since the economy shows no sign of tanking, Kerry & Edwards will glom onto the "global warming" thing and point to the hurricanes as proof. They will probably get some traction out of this, but probably not enough, with one cavaet (see below)
Watch for the MSM to re-inforce this, particularly if Ivan hits and sinks New Orleans...
