Children of Beslan

When the Islamist terrorists, in their incomprehensible barbarity, slaughtered hundreds of little Russian schoolchildren in the city of Beslan, they may have inadvertently aroused the civilized world from its current lethargy and denial. One would have thought that Osama bin Laden's decade-long trail of mass murder and mayhem throughout the four corners of the world would have convinced even the indolent and myopic that civilization is in a war to the death with Islamist terrorism. But even the unspeakable horrors of September 11 have been rationalized away by many Muslims and Europeans, in particular — and by a disturbing number of Americans.

This is a nice OpEd about the Muslims killing all those kids in that Beslan school.

I think those cats were Chechenians first, not Islamists.

Nice sentiments but Putin may make it impossible for us to work with him after his ham-handed effort to consolidate power unto himself.

You've got it wrong, they are muslims who want to see their part of the world as a piece of Mohammedan world, devoid of infidels. Nationalism is a screen.

I'm not blaming Putin for Beslan but for welshing on democratic principles.

From shianews.com:

"Chechnya is a little known Muslim region in the North Caucasus region of Europe. Chechnya has a population of about 862,000 (as per the 1997 estimate). The Chechens (or as they call themselves the Nokhchii) have been Muslims for almost 300 years.

Chechnya, since the 16th century, has constantly been the focus of domination by Safavid Persia, the Ottoman Empire, and Russia. Muslim Chechen leaders such as Shaikh Mansur and Imam Shamil tried to defend Chechnya (as well as other Muslim regions in the Caucasus) from oppressive foreign invaders for years but finally Chechnya became a part of Russia in 1859."

re: "Muslims, both in the Middle East and in the West, have begun to quietly — but publicly — ask whether there is a terrible moral sickness spreading amongst many of their coreligionists.

I wonder what clue finally brought them to that conclusion! Maybe the video taping of the rapes of school girls or perhaps the bayoneting of the child who asked for water?

As Earl Pitts says "Wake up, Amurica!" These people need to be dealt with in the most direct manner possible and as quickly as possible. They are the aggressors and it's they are the ones who have set the terms of this conflict.

You're right, the greatbeast. I understand that Putin has used the Belsan massacre to try imply that he needs to directly appoint local leaders, completely bypassing the electoral process.

From a Russian leader, this frightens me. Certainly, we'd all like to support Russia right now, but we need to stay alert. The Russian people face many threats to their freedom. Chechnya is only one of those threats.

And when the world is devoid of infidels, they'll continue their slaughter of their own. They'll aways be devil creatures.

......thanks for the post.....slowly the West is coming out from under the ether and starting to realize that Islam is rising up again out of the East.......last time they did this they made it all the way to Budapest......the Anglo-European-Judeo-Christian culture must unite to drive them back....our survival is at stake....Slobodan Milosovitch knew this early on......the rest of us are learning painfully.

I agree with you, they have set the terms. They also use goodness in humanity to achieve their goals. For example: How many cease fires did Al Sadr agree to then break. Osama asked for a 72 hr. cease fire which he used to escape. All the maneuverings of Saddam for the last 12 years were under the same guise and principle. That is why we should not listen to their pleadings and understand that there is no room for compromise. Terrorists will only manipulate compromise to further their own agenda and not seek an agreeable solution.

Thanks for posting this. Finally, finally, a few eyes are opening. At last, we see a glimmer of understanding that the problem is is-slime.

According to Operation Christmas Child, the school was a distribution site and the pastor who handled the distribution lost several (I think 7) of his own children in the attack.

Ever hear of an individual named Abraham Lincoln? He was accused of the same thing. Putin is dealing with a hell of a mess, and doesn't have time for the ACLU.

If you don't know history then keep quiet. Abraham Lincoln suspended civil liberties at times in the Civil War, and that was the point I was making.
