[history]
The lead expert retained by CBS News to examine disputed memos from President Bush's former squadron commander in the National Guard said yesterday that he examined only the late officer's signature and made no attempt to authenticate the documents themselves.

Mary Mapes should be terminated. Gary Killian said that she called him a couple of weeks before the 60 Minutes story. Asking for documents or information. He told her some fighter pilots to talk to, that had flown with President Bush. She named one of the pilots, and said she didn't want to talk to him, cause he was a Bush supporter.
It's so lame, and so obvious what she was doing. Killian's son and wife didn't have any "documents", so either the Kerry campaign or CBS created their own.
And these people have the nerve to question the integrity of the swift vets? Positively disgusting.
Let's see the documents, Mary and Dan? The sources?

You did notice that Glennon DID NOT say that all of the features of the docs could be replicated with 1972 technology... I believe it's called lying by omission. You noticed, as well?
Glennon got to have his cake...and ate it, too.

These people are dreadful. I just kind of figure that CBS will prefer to keep Rather and sacrifice Mapes.

I have to give credit where credit is due. The original idea came from Darkwolf377... the Photoshop work to bring his concept to FreeRepublic is mine.

I have Photoshop and never use it so I rely on those who can. I am terminally inept with this danged machine! I loved your piece, it's my new background.

He can't say who was his source. Why not. He either was screwed by the source, which I would think would release him from his promise of anonymity or his source is so close to him that he's won't burn them ("Hi Daddy! How are you doing little girl")

Wow! Matley does have integrity!Matley is deserting a sinking ship. Rather doesn't have that option. By coming out so strongly on Friday night, he's boxed himself in. He can't equivocate now and if he admits what everyone else knows, that the documents are forgeries, he'll face unbelievable pressure to out the forger. I think that is what he wants to avoid at all costs.

I expect them to do that also. Mapes will be gone. She is the one who is quoted as saying she didn't want to talk to any fighter pilots who knew President Bush.
This will be Rather's way out....imho.

What was the clincher for me is the fact that the P.O.Box address listed on the forged memos is in five consecutive numbers. 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, P.O.Box(1,2..)34567. Now that's hilarious :-)

Much as I would like to have that added to the list, that actually was the mailing address for the 111th F.I.S. There are images of documents unrelated to these memos, and from Bush's TxANG service, with that address.
Of course, Killian was with the 147th F.I.G., so putting the (maybe) wrong address on the Killian memos is another on the list. I don't know whether the 147th's mail went to the same PO Box as the 111th.

Who forged the docs? Did CBS and the DNC conspire to manipulate the news to change the outcome of a federal election? This bears repeating.
Screaming, even. This should be the talking point that hits everywhere.

So, if the documents CBS received had been typed with a fabric-ribbon typewriter (that is, if they had been produced in 1973), the fax would have resulted in a slightly mushy print. The print is crisp in the documents we see, which proves the documents could not have been produced by a fabric-ribbon typewriter! Wow again!
