George Bush is very similar to the career of Bernie Kosar at the University of Miami.
Kosar was the first round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 1985 supplemental draft. He FINISHED his degree requirements (I believe a double major as well)..in other words, he GRADUATED. In what would have been his 4th season, Kosar was playing for the Browns.
Likewise, Bush finished his "degree" requirements prior to the last season of his Reserve career so he opted out of his last physical and went to Harvard.
Vinnie Testaverde succeeded Kosar and played 4 years - winning the Heisman his last season. Jimmy Johnson had his number retired. When asked why Kosar's number wasn't retired since Bernie led Miami to the National Championship in 1983, Johnson replied, "Bernie never finished the program here..."
Kosar called up Johnson and reminded him that he GRADUATED with a DEGREE (like a 3.85 average) and also reminded Jimmy that Vinnie Testaverde came up about 40 semester hours short of a degree at Miami.
In this case, Kosar is Bush. He finished his requirements EARLY and moved on to the next step of his career. Testaverde is Kerry of sorts...an incomplete tour, some medals but way overrated.
I wish Scott McClellan or pretty boy Dan what's-his-name (Karen Hughes' successor for communications) would explain this just once.
Kerry's favorite football player is Manny Ortez.
Stupid Schottenheimer's prevent defense, we could have been in the Superbowl.
Funny...point is that Kosar only played 3 years and opted out of his 4th year. However, he met the requirements for a degree and got an "honorable discharge" of sorts.
Jimmie Johnson forgot the point of college is to graduate, not play football for 4 seasons.
Bush had all his flight requirements met...he opted out of his last season - well within the rules -- because he had already met the requirements for an honorable discharge and he moved on to his next step - Harvard.
Bernie provided Miami fans with the most electric night of football I've ever seen and one of the greatest upsets of all time against Nebraska in 1983. He brought the National title to UM for the 1st time.
Bernie will always be a Hurricane.
Kind of like my cat with a lizard....play with it for awhile before offing it.
OK - having reread your entire post, maybe there's hope....ZOT withdrawal may be in order!
Not mobile at all. But he was a smart QB who made very few INT's unlike Vinny whose middle name is interception.
That's fine, but lets not turn this into a trash Vinny post.
From everything I have read and seen about him he is a class act.
Kosar actually played two years at Miami. He redshirted his first year.
Analogies are quite limiting...not intended to trash Vinnie....
Johnson, like the democrats, foolishly said "Bernie never finished the program here..." because he did not suit up for a 4th season...
"Stupid Schottenheimer's prevent defense, we could have been in the Superbowl."
ACK!!! Stop!! You're giving me flashbacks of "The Drive."
Vinny has had a far longer and much more successful NFL career, so is he truly overrated in comparison to Kosar?
I'm just not gonna do it.
Modell destroyed Kosar by not providing him with an offensive line.
Man, THAT is one bad memory!!
Unfortunately, it was one of Bernie's finest performances in one of the greatest quarterback duels I've ever seen.
