According to Olbermann, whatever info he mentioned about Buckhead was as a result of looking at Buckhead's past posts/homepage on FR.

The MSM and Kerry are screwed, blued and tatoo'd on this one. Olberman, McAwful and the Note are trying to spin a Rove set up while CBS defends the forgery--meanwhile the Kerry campaign continues Operation Fortunate Son as if their first "bombshell" didn't go off in their hands. Everything is completely out of sync, no one is on the same page.
To make matters worse the whole plan of Fortunate Son is jaw droppingly stupid: Why, post-Swift boats, remind voters of Vietnam? The Vietnam debate keeps Kerry from finding a message. Further how tin does your ear have to be if you are a Billionaire with a butler trying to pin "privilege" on your opponent?
If Kerry doesn't get going shortly this will be an infamous campaign with the additonal prize of the destruction of CBS news.

"But here is a problem - couldn't anyone claim to be Buckhead? it can't be verified, except perhaps through fixed IP address matching (and who is going to do that)."

They analyzed his handwriting.

Sounds like an effort to flush Buckhead out to me.

I heard it. If Oberman spent half as much time researching the forged docs as reading Buckheads profile and previous posts he would be calling for Dan's head on a stick.

Oberman is a Butthead.

Yeah, I saw the piece and was pi&&ed!

He did what sh**head neocommunist left-wing media pimple faces always do. He took a couple of possible facts and built it into a conspiracy to place the blame for the Rather forgeries on the Republicans. Buckhead was determined to be, from his previous postings, a lawyer who claimed to be well conected in Republican circles.

From this, Olbermann built a "Kerry was set up" position. The other guy, said it might be possible but pointed out what a long shot that would be.

No mentioned of the "proofs" that Rather and Barnes worked together in the past and are Texas dems, etc., etc. Now, when I talk to some of my really leftie friends I'm going to get, "Oh yeah, if the Republican didn't forge it, how come he broke the code so quick?" This, of course, assume that scumbag, crapweasel DNC forgers are smarter than that.

I still say the Rather forgeries were nothing more than a by-product by the forgers Kerry has hired to doctor his military records, the Lehman Citations, for example (which I hope Buckhead has checked carefully).

I saw it! I saw it! ( I was surfing, OK? I never sit and watch news. ) He made a bunch of inferences based on other postings of Buckhead, the gist of which was that he was ( as pointed out here ) an RNC insider and lawyer ( something about having done work for RNC or something - as inferred from a post, that is. )

He immediately jumped to the idea that this was a Bush campaign setup, although he repeatedly made jocular disclaimers about being "way out there" etc., He then turned to his guest, some political analyst from somewhere (I'm terrible) who kind of hemmed and hawed over the idea. He said it really was stretching things to think the Bushies would float this kind of scheme, but didn't come right out and quash it.

The operative idea was the "food fight" principle - just fill the air with absurd trash and make a joke out of the whole thing.

However, it's quite significant that he implicilty conceded the forgery, even though he was careful not make it explicit.

It would appear so.

But we already knew that, didn't we?

Republicans = unreliable partisans.

Democrats = witnesses to history

Do you think the GOP could at least stand up and take on the MSM for implying that every thought coming from a (OMG!) republican is a "partisan lie"? In this senseless age, is it too hard to understand that the opposing party's menmbers serve the important function of keeping an eye on the other party? If they think democrats are going to supervise the integrity of fellow democrats, they'd better take a look at the democrat corruption rife in almost every major city.

My post from earlier:

I shudder to think of these people being in charge of the FBI, CIA and the Justice Department. What kind of forged evidence will they create to send Free Republic to Gitmo?Think about it. If the Democrats support this as "evidence", than we all would be guilty on the strength of the charges and not the validity of the proof.

They can't admit that FR/bloggers are mostly amateurs

We are not amateurs. The blow-dried boobs on TV are the amateurs. All they can do is read a teleprompter. A lot of folks here have a lot of useful skills.

You're not Rather.
You did not use your daughter's connections to do a major network news hit piece.
Rather has a connection to this guy that he uses as a key source. It shows a major problem with objectivity.

What was obvious were the properties of the memos that literally screamed "fake" for all the world to hear. It's ridiculous for anyone to assume that anything sinister was going on involving Buckhead when all he did was draw everyone's attention to those properties.

How we just jumped to conclusion and didn't research the memos out before accusing Dan of reporting false information and then sending it out to all the talk radio shows

We did not; we argued about it all night long!

Damn, I hate these people.

Of course, Olbermann's claim to fame depends on people like us not being able to do HIS job better than he does.

Yup. And since he's here, I'd like to tell Olberman to get a better hairpiece. His current one scares my cat.

Who cares who Buckhead is, its what he and many others have deduced, that the memos are forgeries. Ditto what O'Reilly says. He's scrambling to have a career after Nov. 2. Keep pounding Rather, CBS, the Boston Globe, and MSNBC. They can't hide behind the claim that some phantom IBM Composer equipment that nobody had in 1973 makes the memos legit. Keep riding the Hodges disclaimer. Blather belongs at the dog track, not at the microphone. ABC, the WAPO, and CNN have to understand that he's taking them all down.

Why is the left surprised that these memos we discredited so quickly...they are incredibly bad. Fake, fake, fake!

The dismissive tone and tenor of O'Reilly's comments regarding the CBS forgeries and the Swift boat vets (and his seemingly pained reluctance to even deal with these issues), leads me to believe that he's no different than the rest of MSM who are threatened that they're no longer the Gatekeepers of News.
