A PALESTINIAN television journalist was killed today as he was giving a live report to camera on deadly clashes between US forces and insurgents in the heart of the Iraqi capital.
Residents of his home town in the West Bank watched in horror as Mazen al-Tomaisi, who worked for Saudi television Akhbariya and for the pan-Arab satellite channel Al-Arabiya, went down.
Mr Tomaisi, 28, was killed when a US helicopter fired missiles on a mob which had gathered round a US tank in Baghdad that had been set ablaze in a car bomb attack, one of a string of bombings across the capital today.
Blood spattered across the cameraman's lens and screams were heard by viewers of the Al-Arabiya report.
Mr Tomaisi, from the West Bank town of Idna, is the fourth Palestinian journalist killed in Iraq.
An Iraqi cameraman and an Iraqi photographer were also slightly wounded by flying shrapnel during the attack.
An Iraqi official later said a total of 13 people were killed, including two children, and 55 were wounded during the battle in Haifa Street, a suspected bastion of Saddam Hussein loyalists, where insurgents and US troops clash regularly
how is the tank and the tank crew??
Missiles? I heard ONE bang on the tape... ONE... the single missile they fired at the tank to destroy it and keep the equipment/weapons out of the hands of the enemy.
We have to destroy disabled tanks... if people were dancing and reporting so closely and others were on the tank already stripping it, they were unintentional deaths and the victims essentially committed suicide.
Please explain to me exactly how this Palestinian reporter, camerman and equipment all happened to be at the exact location and moment our tank was destroyed by a waiting car bomb?
Thanks.
He blowed up real good.
Because Clinton didn't fight the terrorists back in the 90's, we have to fight them a decade later.
Note to terrorists and terrorist sympathizers in the press: it's a war, stay the f*** away from our stuff!
This made my day.
Nice, good hit on idiot terr perp loving journalist. A blasted to hell Islamfacist nazi reporter in the morning starts my day off right.
Yes, but as a practical matter, a better tactic would be to pick your scenery, friends, and framing with more circumspection.
I don't know. I don't even know if he was there at the 'exact moment' that the tank was destroyed- the news story does not seem to suggest so. It could be that he went on the scene after the blast. He belongs to that geographical region and I would expect him to react faster in that environment. It could be that he was 'in the know' before it happened. At best, he was doing his job and he paid the price- I have no problems with that. At worst he was a terrorist, or a terrorist sympathiser, and died- all the better. But, IMHO - a man died reporting, he should not immediately be painted over with such broad and ugly strokes. I believe this forum is better than that.
He's off too meet the 72 Virginians
A lot of combat reporters are adrenaline junkies. They enjoy danger. It's a form of mental illness, I guess.
Perhaps they should consider something safer, like skydiving.
Someone post a stinking video link that works.
link is still down or no good?
