I don't know why, but I'm still amazed just how stupid you have to be to be a Dimocrat.
What makes you think Bush served otherwise? What makes you feel Bush did something wrong that required a "fix?"
Bush defends 1978 ad citing Air Force service
July 17, 1999
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) In 1978 campaign literature, George W. Bush said he served in the Air Force, a statement his Presidential campaign says is legitimate based on time he spent training and on alert while a member of the Texas Air National Guard.

Mr. PAUL BEGALA: Thanks, Kathleen.

Third, I was advised to ask: `In 1978, Bush was running for the House of Representatives. He had a brochure that said he served in the Air Force instead of the International Guard. Isn't that Bush lying about his military record?'

Your source is an article from The Nation?!?!?? Well heck. Why didn't you say so in the first place. Of course that same article has been quoted in every left wing site on the internet from Micheal Moore to the Daily Kos. Does the fact that this single snippet from a single AP article remain the ONLY bit of evidence that President Bush never served on active duty in the Air Force bother you? It should, because it doesn't even say what anti-Bush folks are trying to twist it into saying. Nor is the entire article ever presented. The simple fact is, the Air National Guard is a reserve component of the U.S. Air Force. When its members are put on active duty orders (for purposes of training including Undergraduate Pilot Training), they are performing active duty in the U.S. Air Force, albeit as Guardsmen. They are not performing duties for the Governor of the state for which they serve. They are performing duties for the United States military. Specifically, the U.S. Air Force. They fall under USAF authority for UCMJ purposes and for rating purposes. Not their ANG home unit.
The definitions you provide are for regulations concerning who can enroll in Serviceman's Group Life Insurance!!! Note the little qualifier at the top stating "For the purpose of this subchapter" before stating its definitions. Honestly, before just copying and pasting crap from liberal websites, do a little personal research. You have allowed yourself to be incredibly misinformed.
I'm not discussing the uniform. I am discussing the unit designations placed on that uniform. That is a big difference, as they denote under whose direct authority you serve.
That is likely, but the trainee must be on active duty in the AF at the moment of graduation or he will not graduate.
I just reread your post and realized I completely misunderstood your point. Sorry. I agree with what you said.
The active guard and reserve is a component of the active AF, Army, etc. The AF even advertises that departing active duty personnel can continue their AF connections, training and hone their skills by going to the active reserve or air national guard. I was career active duty and I served with many who had either come from the guard or who were on extended active duty. Most of the tanker, a lot of transport support and even some bomber units are reserve/guard these days. The Nebraska guard tanker unit has rotated several tours to the Centcom theatre -- tell them that they don't fly for the AF.
What do you mean "what Bush did". This is all about this:
Bush defends 1978 ad citing Air Force service
A pullout ad from The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal on May 4, 1978, shows a huge picture of Bush with a "Bush for Congress" logo on the front. On the back, a synopsis of his career says he served "in the U.S. Air Force and the Texas Air National Guard, where he piloted the F-102 aircraft."

Whoop de dang do.
