Couldn't resist ;>
Just when you thought you'd seen Algore at the pinnacle of his frothing foaminess, he manages to produce another prize. Go Paparazzi!
Hey, thanks for the memory. Brother Theodore used to appear on "The Merv Griffin Show." I think he had some theory about mankind reverting to going around on all-fours -- another similarity with Gore. Hah, Brother Theodore -- sharing the limelight with London Lee and Julie Budd and Totie Fields and the other B-list acts on afternoon variety.
LOL! Yes, Gore is even more scary than Bro Theodore!
I remember him well from the Dave Letterman show in the 1980s, back when Dave USED to be funny. How I miss those shows, and the old Dave. His current show has not amused me for at least a decade now.
Not sure what Theodore's real name was but he died a few years ago.
LOL!
Julie Budd.
I remember she was on virtually every episode of the old Jim Neighbors variety show. They did everything they could to make her a star.
Theo appears less unhinged.
You know who else Merv used to have on a lot? Stanley Myron Handelman and Dana Valery and Sergio Franchi. I think also Professor Irwin Corey. Julie Budd was supposed to be a poor man's Barbra Streisand -- hopefully she turned out better than Barbra. Jack E. Leonard bump.
I'm currently working on a "Last Supper" with Thurston Howell III in the middle, snarfing up a slice of pizza, and Patches Kennedy as Judas, Dean slamming his fists down around the chalice... and Wesley Clarke in full battle regalia wedged between Michael Moore who looks intent on clearing the table.
-I haven't had my knuckles rapped by a ruler in 30 years, but I'll deserve it after that one ;>
Whoa. Scary. I almost posted those exact words.
On Merv's guest list you could add Orson Bean, Betty White and Jack Klugman's wife (I cannot recall her name), and of course the Gabor sisters.
No, but God do I remember Donna Theodore!!!
What a doll!
Bret Sommers was Jack Klugman's wife.
I guess great minds and all that. Good list of Merv guests!! I never could figure out exactly what Orson Bean did other than show up on variety and quiz shows. Same for Betsy Palmer and Phyllis Newman. They just seemed like they were people who went to New York parties and then dropped in on their friends TV shows the next afternoon. When you said Jack Klugman's wife -- could you possibly mean Jack Carter, who had a Japanese wife named Reiko that Merv found knee-slappingly funny?
But it's for a good cause!! And I think you would get total absolution from anybody in a position to give it!!
You mean Jack Douglas and Reiko. They were on Jack Paar's show a lot, as I recall.
I stand corrected, and I do remember the Paar appearances. Was there not a comedian named Jack Carter? I recall Monty Rock III being another staple of Merv's show in the late 60s. Remember Sam Levenson? And that cranky guy Henry Morgan? Another one-tick pony comic who used to appear on those shows was Jackie Vernon. And the never-funny Donna Jean Young, whose whole schtick was that she was from East McKeesport, PA. Man, too much of my youth wasted in front of the tube. Now I go weeks without ever turning it on.
A bizarre evening of "entertainment".
