Assault weapons/An important ban expires

Over the last decade, buying an assault weapon hasn't been as easy as it once was. For that you can credit Congress, which decided in 1994 that rapid-fire killing machines have no proper place in American life. Apparently that conclusion has been renounced, for assault weapons are even now rushing back into gun shops. Today marks the expiration of the ban -- and the coming of a great shopping opportunity for gunsters. Never mind that most Americans strongly backed the ban. Somehow, the prohibition was allowed to wither without regard for the public will -- and despite past support from major-party presidential candidates. Last March, Sen. John Kerry voted for renewing the ban, which cleared the Senate but died in the House.

Its insane to let people have AK 47's. What in the world is the purpose for that? Some nut is going to get hold of one and there will be some crazy shooting like Columbine. It's insane to let people have Chevy Suburbans. What in the world is the purpose for that? Some nut is going to get ahold of one and there will be some crazy mass run-over incident like Lizzie Grubman.

Real Ak-47's are extremely hard to get legally here in most of the Union, and are illegal in number of states, like California. But that didn't stop those wackos in bullet-resistant vest a couple years back from shooting up the place in LA. Fortunatly, the police were able to get "Assault Weapons" (a.k.a. scary-looking semi-auto rifles) from the local gunstore when they could shoot though the criminal's vest with their handguns & shotguns.
Any attempt to ban guns of any sort will be as about as effective as attempts to ban drugs, assuming those guns are useful. I.E any thirteen year old will be able to go out on the street and buy a handgun (which most crimes are committed with) anyways.
And besides, an armed populance is made of of citizens. An unarmed populace are but subjects of the state.

If someone is deranged enough to start a killing spree, AW bab or not they will find something just as or more deadly than an AK.

newsflash AK47 were never part of the AWB. Machine gunes have a different regulation.
duh.

Dear Troll,
You are wrapped around the axle on AK's.
Let me tell you something. I can hit an idiot carrying an AK-47, at 500 yards, with my BOLT ACTION 03 OR my Garand. No scope. Open iron sights. The AK-47 is effective at 150 yards or LESS.

However I might add the REAl PROBLEM IS THAT TERRORISTS CAN WALK ACROSS OUR SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN BORDERS
That is what the administartion is NOT ADDRESSING
Banning any gun etc etc is not the solution

Its insane to let people have AK 47's.I could buy one (semi auto version) after the AWB, just with removed certain cosmetic attachments. The AWB was a farce from the beginning. Since large capacity magazines were easily available, the new cosmetic changes did NOTHING to affect the weapons capability. (Who uses fixed bayonetes in a holdup anyway?)

Rather than having me try to explain it based on what I assume you're thinking it is/does, could you please elaborate on why you think it's insane and/or without purpose?

It should surprise no one here that the radical left and it's propaganda ministry, er, the "mainstream media", is going into full-out bullshit mode at the top of it's lungs. Their Marxist stepchild just got run over by the freedom train. Good riddance.
In celebration, it would be a good idea to make a donation to your favorite gun-rights group RIGHT NOW while you're thinking about it, since you can bet that the statists in Congress will be back full-force in no time. So rest while you can, because another fight is coming, especially if John Kerry gets elected POTUS.
And while we're at it, take a few minutes and call your congresscritters, to either congratulate them on their good deeds, or castigate them if they were on the wrong side of this issue. I just called Florida senator Bill Nelson, a long-time gun-banner, and invited him out hog-hunting with AK-47s. $:-) His staffer took it in stride, to his credit.

What the gun-grabbers and hysterical liberals don't understand is that the AWB was
ALREADY IN EFFECT during all of the school shootings, the North Hollywood robbery, and other assorted high-profile crimes profiled on "America's Most Wanted..."
Yeah, it really prevented those crimes...good riddance to bad rubbish.
