MOULTON — Lynne Gobbell never imagined the cost of a John Kerry-John Edwards bumper sticker could run so high.
DAILY Photo by Clyde Stancil Lynne Gobbell said her boss fired her last week because of the Kerry-Edwards campaign sticker on the back of her car. Gobbell of Moulton didn't pay a cent for the sticker that she proudly displays on the rear windshield of her Chevrolet Lumina, but said it cost her job at a local factory after it angered her boss, Phil Gaddis.
Gaddis, a Decatur bankruptcy attorney, owns Enviromate, a cellulose insulation company in Moulton.
Gaddis did not return phone calls from THE DAILY about the alleged Thursday firing.
Gobbell said she consulted a lawyer, but then changed her mind about going to see him. She said she has cried about the incident and must do without income for three weeks while the state unemployment commission decides if she is eligible for compensation.

It really is easy to attack, huh?
Everyone here has assumed they know the facts. They presume this person to be lazy, fat, stupid, and deserving to be fired.
While jobs are not guaranteed, there is an expectation that you will not be punished for conscientious beliefs. What if it was someone fired for having a religious symbol on their car?
Don't you all have something positive to do with your lives versus condemning, degrading, ridiculing and attacking other people, especially over just politics?
How will your actions on here get you into heaven? WWJD.

It is a sad day in America when people aren't allowed to display buttons, stickers or yard signs endorsing their candidate.
No one was stopping her. She could cheer lead for J. Forgin Kerry all she wanted as long as she did not do it on her employer's time or property. Her rights were not abridged. Every action may have consequences. You have the right to espouse your beliefs, just as I have the right to disagree and work against you in any way that I can - ie, fire you, post editorial comments and ridicule you on message boards, etc. This is a free country. We are free to be angels or @ssholes or somewhere in between. If you do not like it, please go wine somewhere else.
Just to make sure you understand, the large woman's ex employer was NOT being unAmerican or hateful. He was exercising his God-given and constitutionally backed rights to his own free expression and property. I would have no problem in someone firing an employee that was an outspoken and argumentative supporter of kerry or any other socialist. It is similar to the don't ask don't tell policy on gays. You can be whatever your want at home, just don't bring it up around me or I may express my disapproval.

Why does everybody keep saying she was fired?!?!
She was given two choices by her boss.
1.) Remove that Kerry bumper-sticker from my property.
2.) Find another job.
She chose poorly. The reason the lawyer could not help her is because she had no case. Free speech in the workplace does not exist. You are on someone else's dime.
Liberals feel instead of thinking. She "felt" she was right but in reality the law supports the business-owner.

The exercise of your rights stops at the point that you stop anothers rights.
That is called society. What your propose is anarchy, total freedom to our individual rights over the greater good.
That is contrary to everything conservative.

You are entitled to your opinion.
In society we agree to a set of respectful standards of behavior.
We must all respect each other, otherwise we respect none.
Cutting off ones financial security for expressing an opinion is just wrong.

I didn't think you were implying anything about me. I wondered about your references to it? Like you had an issue with it.
Maybe it is the nickname NoHateHere that you are associating with this?
I picked that nickname because of the hateful comments against this woman. Nothing more nothing less. I did not worry about the PC of the name before picking it.
