Ping to several folks who have been chewing on this.

The referenced article here seems to settle the kerning
issue.

Yes, the memo contains nested glyph pairs, and
yes that was essentially impossible for Killian, but
no, they aren't "kerned".

No, I think he said the apparent kerning was caused by a negative C dimension of the Microsoft TrueType font if I'm not mistaken.
