CBS Asks Anti-Bush Group for Help With Story (FREEP this CBS 60 Minutes producer, phone/email shown)

CBS News is apparently collaborating with an anti-war and anti-Bush group for help with stories, Ed Morrissey reports. In a message posted at the web site of the Killeen Daily Herald, a Texas newspaper, Nancy Lessin and Charley Richardson of Military Families Speak Out, an anti-war organization seeking "an immediate return of all U.S. troops to their home duty stations," ask local residents to help them help a CBS producer with a story about Iraq.

"Dear Military Families," the message begins, "We received the email below from Leslie Cockburn, a producer for CBS's 60 Minutes. She is looking into the lack of supplies, equipment, maintenance of vehicles/equipment, etc. in Iraq. If you are interested in contacting her, her email is LCCockburn@aol.com and her phone number in Washington DC is 202 342 9488."

Why bother contacting soldiers? Why not just make up the quotes and documents as usual?

I can't believe that after the flak they received over the forged memos that they are going ahead with another biased anit-Bush report. Belay that last, I don't know what I was thinking. Of course they are.

Just so everyone knows...the Killeen Daily Herald is the local paper for Fort Hood...big Army base. Home of the Fourth Infantry Division (they caught Saddam) and the 1st Cavalry Division (In Baghdad now).

Sent to Ms. Cockburn:

Dear Ms. Cockburn:

I heard you're contacting opponents of the President to try to scam up a story about shortages in Iraq. If you like, I can supply you with some memos describing how bad it is - and better yet, I know the difference between a monotype and a proportional font! Tell me what shortages you want, and I'll supply memos to order! I'm not exactly an experienced forger, but they'll certain meet CBS standards!

She is looking into the lack of supplies, equipment, maintenance of vehicles/equipment, etc. in Iraq.

In plain English - 60 Minutes has a hypothesis, "Troops in Iraq do not have enough supplies, equipment, or adequate maintenance . . ." and is looking for "sources" and "trump cards" to certify their hypothesis so that they can air a story describing such things.

No need to actually fact check.

Make Hypothesis that is unfavorable to President Bush.

Find "facts" that support hypothesis, ignoring anything that impeaches hypothesis.

Ipso Facto, hypothesis is believed by Sheep.

Thank God for the internet and Freepers like you my friend.

Thank God we have each other to keep CBS and the evil Nazgul at bay.

Just called the number, a man said she wasn't at her desk but would take a message.

I said I understood she was looking for information from military families and why didn't she just make stuff up, since that's what CBS does.

Click, he hung up.

Give a call, make the man's day!!!

Leslie Cockburn

I wonder if she's any relation to Alexander Cockburn, perhaps the foremost living communist in the western world.
