Of course you didn't. All the information we got was that guys like Kerry were RIGHT, alhtough Kerry was a little creepy even back then. He was so obviously pimping for public office.

But the hippies were all about peace, weren't they? When they weren't spitting on you.... they seemed to have a thing about spitting. Being a hippie was more like joining a club... or a cult... where you had to, what was it "tune in, turn on, and drop out."

It was about always being able to have a place to find some dope and someone to smoke it with. Agreeing politically was the price of being able to get in the circle for a toke (and some snacks and a place to crash and maybe a sex partner, as well). Some people then proceeded to try and get rich selling it and they targeted the 15-yr-olds. The ideology came w/the pot and the pot made everyone receptive to the ideology.

As for peace, well, I think it was a lot more about being lazy and saving their own asses from any pain, but, of course, they all made it out to be on a much higher plane.

I am trying to figure out when it actually died, but I've been out of it for so long, I haven't any real idea. I'd guess sometime in the 90s, though. About the time the Reagan Generation grew up and had their own successful war.
