Boy, 2, in hospital after being mauled by 3 dogs

FORT WORTH -- A 2-year-old boy was in critical condition late Saturday after three dogs dragged the toddler into a back yard and mauled him.

The toddler, identified as Luis Blanko, was rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center after suffering severe bite wounds on the head, neck and shoulders, police Lt. Gene Jones said.

The three dogs -- a pit bull and two Rottweilers -- were euthanized, Jones said. The state will analyze the remains to determine whether any of the animals was infected with rabies.

The attack occurred at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at a house in the 2400 block of Northwest 27th Street in northwest Fort Worth, Jones said. The house is owned by an aunt of Luis' mother, whom Jones did not identify.

Luis was playing on the floor in the kitchen when the three dogs pushed open the back door. One of the dogs grabbed the boy, dragged him down cement steps and into the back yard, where "all three dogs mauled the victim," Jones said.

When the mother walked into the kitchen to check on Luis, she saw that he was being attacked and pried him loose from the grasp of the three dogs, Jones said.

It sounds like the dogs belonged to the homeowner -- the aunt. Pretty aggressive dogs to actually go into the house to kill the baby.

Dear God. Why would you have dogs like that with a two year old around?

Parents who let this happen should be thrown in a cage with a pack of starving wolves.

How many children were killed with assault weapons last year?

I mean real children, not teen gangbangers.

Hell if I know. I do know that a neighbor and I shot and killed a Pit Bull that had attacked another neighbor's dog. The year before that, two Pit Bulls killed my cat. I was at work at the time, otherwise, I'd have shot those bastards as well. That's all I need to know.

Personally I wouldn't blame the breeds as much as the owners. I work in a service industry and do a fair amount of work in the ghetto. One thing you notice about ghettos is that nobody owns golden retrievers. They all want the biggest, meanest, most f--ked up dog there is. Then they ussually tie them up in the backyard and neglect them. The dog is basically a display of machismo rather than a companion or a pet.

The basic problem is stupid and irresponsible people and not aggressive dogs. These are the same morons who leave loaded guns where their toddlers can get at them and spend their welfare checks on tattoos. If it weren't pitbulls and rottweillers it would probably be tosaken's, mastiffs or chows and due to the owners attitudes and treatment they'd be just as dangerous and aggressive as the pits and rotts are today.

I think pits and rotts ARE potentially dangerous breeds and if you own one you should take greater precautions than you would with a lab or a beagle, but they're still dogs and if they're raised properly they can make good pets.

Sorry. Pits, Rotts, and Chows are simply unpredictable dogs. They can be classified as "deadly weapons" under Texas law, thus tripling any penalty owners may incur under the state's animal felony abuse law.

It is time to seriously think about breeding these dogs out of existence.

Soon comes the part where a few people show up and rail on us for insisting that these "dogs of peace" are wonderful, loving dogs when raised right.

That's why Goldens, etc are always showing up in these stories, right?

Yeah. That's why we always hear about Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Weimeraners, etc mauling kids, right?

If you keep these dogs around you're asking for trouble. I only wish they would maul the adults instead of kids; that way the person who made the fool decision to begin with would suffer the worst - instead of a child, who has no control over how stupid their family members are.

All dogs are unpredictable.

Baloney. I have three bichon frises, two of whom have never exhibited one single sign of aggression in over six years. And, they never will.

Do a "google" on "Pit Bull Attacks." You'll come up with over 50,000 hits, including maulings, fatalities, and attacks on children, seniors and other dogs.

Do a google on "Bichon Frise Attacks". You'll come up with 2500 hits on allergies that affect Bichon Frises.

How many Golden Retrievers have you read about lately attacking a small child?
