You're correct, Glenn.

I don't think they reinstated the lottery until 1969. He was well out of that window. My number was 283 in 1971.

That was the last full year of draft number call-ups. My next older brother, 18 in 1971, got his lottery number in 1972. My year was 1973, I got number 55 but they called no one from my birthyear bracket, or any of the next four years, and less than a dozen numbers from the 1972 lottery.

Birthyear 1957 was the last year you even had to register for the draft. I know because my youngest brothers were born in '56, '58 and '59,

All males still have to register for the draft.

That's not entirely correct. While there was about a 2-year window where you didn't register, I think birth years '58 and '59 (I know '59, that's my birth year), Carter reinstated draft registration. So I think those from birth years '60 onwards have had to register. My son just did.
