The Australian newspaper The Age reported today that the new Kitty Kelley book "The Family" may contain allegations of a gay relationship with President George W. Bush, among other things. This is a mainstream paper like the New York Times or the Washington Post with one of the most popular Internet news sites:

That's ok, the NY Times put Kitty Kelly's allegation that Nancy Reagan had an affair with Frank Sintra on the front page (below the fold).
I heard Jackie Mason on with Mark Levin telling how she interviewed him about Frank Sinatra (not sure if that's the book the Reagan allegations were in or not) and that she didn't just mis-quote him, she completely made up a long interview filled with things he never said, things he didn't even know, for example she had him telling jokes about Mia Farrow, but he didn't even know that Sinatra and Farrow had been married. He said he regretted talking to her, but offered the explanation that he was just starting out in show business and knew no reason to doubt her and was flattered she wanted to interview him.
(undoubtedly, one of the biggest 'ifs' ever) this is true, your point is correct. However, the evangelicals will feel otherwise.

The more I hear about Kitty Kelly's allegations, the more I am convinced that she mixed up her notes and took them from a book she's writing about the Clintons.
