They came from somewhere, and the safe bet it's from the democrats. Unless 60 minutes invented them. The bottom line is that they are forged, therefore a crime, and therefore the journalists decree of 'protecting their sources" does not apply.

Not necessarily. The Republicans could have set them up, a possibility I find highly amusing.
The Republicans probably were able to identify the rat mole in the Pentagon who forwarded the Abu Grabe photos to the rats. I believe they went through Seymore Hersch. They could have produced the forgeries and allowed the mole to 'steal' them. At least that's what I would have done.
