After researching the 1972 and earlier model Selectric Composers, if find it VERY hard to believe that it would be used by anyone typing as infrequently as a Lt Col. For starters, you had to type every sentance twice!!

Since it has no memory, the user was required to type everything twice. While typing the text the first time, the machine would measure the length of the line and count the number of spaces. When the user finished typing a line of text, they would record special measurements into the right margin of the paper. Once the entire column of text was typed and measured, it would then be retyped, however before typing each line, the operator would set the special justification dial (on the right side) to the proper settings, then type the line. The machine would automatically insert the appropriate amount of space between words so that all of the text would be justified.

The electronic versions didn't come out until 1975

I'm curious about the font in the "ordered to report" memo, does anyone know which font it is? I have not been able to exactly identify it. According to the IBM Selectric Composer manual, these were the only avaialable type styles...

Aldine Roman
Baskerville
Bodoni
Century
Classsified News
Copperplate Gothic
Journal Roman
Press Roman Symbols
Pyramid

Univers

CBS is almost certainly guilty of trying to influence an election by fraudulent means.

Unfortunately, they don't hold an FCC licence, I believe the individual affiliates do. but they do get special dispensation under McCain Feingold. Can we get that withdrawn on the basis that they are not a legitimate news source?

A love letter?

Actually, it was originally titled "F U Dan Rather", but the moderators decided to replace it with a kinder, gentler title. On the web document, I now call it What's the Font, Kenneth?

Your Factoid chart is excellent except there is a question about Kerry's discharge date.

He didn't get his honorable discharge until 1978 I believe, which raises the question did he get dishonorably discharged in the early 70's and then get pardoned as part of Carter's blanket pardon in 1977 resulting in an honorable discharge in 78?

It's also possible that the Moon Landing was staged in a film studio. Great, wonderful post! But, c'mon everyone knows the moon shots were faked and wrestling is real!

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is true.

Let’s face the facts, folks. Dan Rather is following the lead of the man he worships most—William Jefferson Clinton. Rather is going to stick to his story unless and until some court decision determines he lied, at which time most of the kerfuffle will have diminished and he then may humbly apologize while noting his lies really did not harm anyone. It worked for Clinton—why not Rather?

Do you recall Rather’s response to O’Reilly’s direct question a few months ago whether Rather thought Clinton was an honest man? Rather carefully responded he believed Clinton was an honest man.

I do not believe our letters of inquiry or outrage to CBS or any of the other MSM endeavors will have any effect upon the stonewalling attitude of CBS or Rather. Instead, would it not be more appropriate to boycott totally ALL CBS TV programs, beginning with the Sunday news discussions and the NFL season-opening games? Further to emphasize the impact, why not tune specifically to Fox News (where available)—even in the off hours when we are not actually viewing the screen? If this action were strong enough to affect the viewership ratings of CBS, perhaps they would lose sufficient revenues from cancelled political ads to bring executive attention to the public’s displeasure with Mr. Rather and his despicable lack of integrity.
