Need to check this guy out. I will be posting the articles I find about him as I read them. here's the first.

Marcel Matley Marcel Matley studied handwriting analysis with Rose Toomey and was certified by the Paul de Ste. Colombe Center. In 1985 he became a full time professional document examiner and has other interests in medical and psychological research, paleography, education, Western formal penmanship and Oriental calligraphy. He is the author of several published monographs and articles, taught private classes and seminars, and presented at conferences. The American Handwriting Analysts Foundations library, as well as a collection of more than 4,000 forensics and handwriting articles, is located in his home in San Francisco where it is available for reference by appointment.

Unsolved Mysteries asked handwriting expert Marcel Matley to compare a copy of Cobains alleged suicide note with copies of two pages of lyrics, hand written by Cobain. Matley believes the bulk of the note was written by Cobain, but finds the last four lines questionable.
Marcel Matley Handwriting Expert
As to the last four lines, there are more than a dozen differences that should give us pause, and we would have to reasonable explain these differences before we can conclude that the same person wrote the four lines that wrote the body of it.

AHAF's library contains hundreds of books and monographs covering most aspects of the handwriting sciences.

"Then the program turned to Marcel Matley, identified as a "handwriting examiner" with no further credentials given, who offered his opinion that the "suicide" note is genuine. Matley believes that the "deteriorated copy" of the note.... that is, it's been copied over too many times.... and the "stress" Foster was presumably under account for the differences in handwriting. He then went on to show how Foster used different styles of letters in the genuine samples, such as both cursive and block letter "s", for example, and how the same multiple styles appear in the note; and from this he concluded that the same person wrote both the note and the samples known to be genuine.
One problem with Matley's statements is that it is impossible to determine to what extent the copy of the "suicide" note used by the experts has deteriorated from the original.... because the government has yet to release any official copy of the original, much less a high-resolution one. I just don't see how Matley can point out examples of "deterioration" in copies of the note without having seen the original note.
Matley is exactly right in pointing out the multiple letter styles used by Foster; I can vouch for these, as I have picked off images of the documents from the Internet, printed them out and examined them, and I am familiar with them. But for me, these variations are an argument in favor of the forgery; for if the letters in the note were painstakingly copied as the other experts suggest, one would expect the forger to also copy the letter variations in an effort to lend an air of authenticity to the forged note. Matley did not refute any of the major points made by the other experts, notably the number of strokes making up the letters, and the "hesitation dots", in the note.
I suspect Matley was put on the show so its producers would not be accused of being biased on a highly-charged political issue, and so they wouldn't wind up on the Clintons' sh*t list. At any rate, it shouldn't take too long for those intrepid Internet sleuths who follow every twist and turn of the Foster story to ferret out Matley's credentials and to find out how much he was paid to appear on the program."
Thanks I found that. The post above under construction is his homepage. If you go Qualifications is under construction also.
Just offhand and just curiosity....did that bio say this guy does or does not have a degree?
A degree is not the end all and be all, but I'm just curious.
Isn't he in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
Here is the Resume.

Handwriting Services of California
I just did a Google Search on Matley.
I found a list of handwriting books at
http://www.handwriting.org/main/hwabooks.html
This site gives Matley zero stars for his book and notes that it was "self-published."
I have no idea whether this rating is deserved, but I am suspicious of an "expert" who has to publish his own book.
Now we know why Kerry and Clinton had several LONG visits this last week. !!! Things are not going well in the Kerry camp!!!
I just found his resume. Take a look at it. He may be qualified to talk about handwriting but his resume is not particularly great for discussing Fonts from the 1970's.

Matley, who told Rather last night that he knew the Bush documents would be professional "dynamite" for him, has been involved in several high-profile cases, including a 1997 controversy over purported John F. Kennedy documents. After "60 Minutes" cast doubt on the documents, the man who unearthed them, Lawrence Cusack III, retained Matley in a suit against CBS that was rejected in court. Matley could not vouch for the documents' authenticity.

Interesting how Matley was a witness against CBS before but could not authenticate docs that time......

Someone should run this guy's name in Lexis or WestLaw. If he's a legit questioned doc examiner, he'll show up in cases. If not, he's simply a hack. My bet is hack.
""Lets start with Matley ... the "Expert" brought in by CBS ... OK, he's a handwritimg expert. His credentials in that discipline are eminently satisfactory.""
I don't know about eminently?
Google his resume in the Vince Foster matter and find,
http://nick.assumption.edu/WebVAX/Foster/matley.html
which lists his
CREDENTIALS:
Certification with commendation, Paul de Sainte Colombe Center, January 28, 1981
Awarded Charter Membership Certificate for professional excellence, Paul de Sainte Colombe Center, April 8, 1982.
And he lists in his education:
1979-80 Privately instructed by Rose Toomey, author of HEALTH CLUES IN HANDWRITING.
Rose Toomey and the Sainte Colombe Center are famous for Graphology.
http://www.graphologyafgs.com/afgs-bg.htm
Graphology is the study of handwriting, especially when employed as a means of analyzing character. Real handwriting experts are known as forensic document examiners, not as graphologists.
Graphologists believe such details can reveal as much about a person as astrology , palm reading......
http://skepdic.com/graphol.html
Matley can analyze character based on handwriting so is Matley the one who reported that Killian really felt this way about 1Lt Bush. And then further verified by John Edward, the TV guy, not the lawyer.
Matley can also play lawyer if needed. See Expert Ambush.

eminently interesting

Yes he plays a poor lawyer....giving an example where one is ambushed with an expert witness like you didn't expect it..unfortunately expert witnesses & their C.V. are traded between defense and plaintiff long ahead of trial at least in California..IMO this guy is a hack....
I would like to read some of his publications, especialy one about photocopies....LOL...
http://www.smichaelchurch.com/history/
Well now we know what he did when he left seminary school...for a year and a half...did he leave suddenly?
In the same sense that an astrologer is qualified to talk about astrophysics! (Poincare knows)
