That is why we must compete with low-cost workers worldwide---keep our industries sharp and innovative so our economy stays strong.
Strong industries are built on creativity and innovation. It takes stable and long product life cycles to garner the necessary investment in time and capital. Cheap production only serves to creates a stagnant deposible economy. The money squandered moving assembly lines around the planet could have been used to develop tremendous and highly competitive product developments.

It takes stable and long product life cycles to garner the necessary investment in time and capital. Good point. Japanese know it, Chinese know it, Europeans know it. USA is following example of Latin America.

Sorry, but the auto industry is a prime example. Product life cycles are down to 3-4 years, profits are high and wages are peaked.

Excellent idea, but it would require the U.S. government to start doing their constitutional job of protecting intellectual property.
Right now, U.S. engineers design all kinds of things for which they are not paid since their ideas are immediately stolen by foreign countries.
Americans need to understand that the source of all wealth is the human mind. As a country and individuals, we can no longer afford to give our ideas away for free.
