KE 04 is not stupid just desperate. I suspect this was originally designed to be an "October Surprise" but with their campaign in danger of sinking out of sight, they rolled the schedule forward in an effort to rescue the campaign.

What they didn't plan on was CBS posting the forgeries in a place where they could be scrutinized. They couldn't exactly tell CBS not to either without raising suspicions, even among the brain-dead Bush-haters at 60 Minutes.

You've hit on it. The Kerry people did not anticipate that the actual documents would be put up on a website, and, apparently, CBS thought the story was so "hot" that the charges would be the issue, not the origins or authenticity.

And, if McAuliffe blames this on Rove, he makes the entire DNC look like the biggest bunch of dummies in the universe.

Who would entrust the presidency to people that braindead?

Bingo! As Rush was saying yesterday, the Kerry camp is so desperate that the stuff that is scheduled for the week before the election is being trotted out now.

Had these Memos be reported on between Thursday and Monday before the election it is highly unlikely that the fact they were fake would have had a hard time impacting before the election.

My take on it is that they knew the documents were forgeries, but that the people involved were all too young to know that the output from a typewriter was different than the output from a laser printer.

They really thought they were going to get away with this and that no one could tell the difference.

Agreed. They also didn't count on a bunch of tenacious FReepers who relish in solving mysteries and the emerging power of the New Media.
