I'm actually surprised the major networks didn't jump on CBS quicker. Ratings and competition mean more to these people than politics.
Then again, if (when) CBS goes down the drain they must realize that they could be next so CBS must be protected.

My theory is they set out consulting experts in order to debunk the debunking and instead got stuck with experts telling them the docs were faked. They had no choice at that point to go with what they had.
