clamper, with all due respect, I think that we will find in November that there are fewer idiots in Iowa than you might think..:) BTW, I'm an Iowan and last Friday was at the Presidential visit to Cedar Rapids. It was awesome and the President and First Lady were greeted without an ear of corn in sight (LOL)!

Senator Harken: an expert on Stolen Valor. Please share this. What DO Iowans think about when they vote for someone like this? Strictly self-interest in someone who delivers government pork?

Excerpted from Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its History

During a 1992 bid for the presidency, Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa claimed that he had served as a pilot in Vietnam. His claim surfaced eight years before, during a 1984 bid for reelection to the Senate, when Harkin boasted that he had served one year in Vietnam flying F-4s and F-8s on combat air patrols and photo-reconnaissance support missions. Challenged by Sen. Barry Goldwater, Harkin did a quick shuffle, claiming that he had actually flown combat sorties over Cuba during the sixties. Harkin finally admitted that he had not seen combat but had served as a ferry pilot stationed in Atsugi, Japan, flying aircraft to be repaired from Atsugi to the Phillipines. When pressed by reporters to explain how much time he had really spent in Vietnam, Harkin estimated that over a year, he flew in and out of Vietnam a dozen or so times. But Harkins military record showed no Vietnam service decorations. He finally conceded he had not flown combat air patrols in Vietnam and began describing himself as a Vietnam -era- vet

PS: At least it appears the good people of South Dakota may finally be prepared to throw Daschle out on his obstructionist rear end

15-yr Texan here, but born & raised in Iowa. It just kills me to see family there support the Rats. The folks are socially conservative, but between the farmers, seniors, unions, and welfare recipients... They're almost all in it for gubamint gimme's.

It takes a "rugged individual" to farm for a living, but they've become hooked on govt. aid like a junkie to heroin. And that sh!t Harkin promises to keep it coming. Sad!

Being from Iowa, Tom Harkin is a disgrace. How a State can elect Harkin and Grassley at the same time (by overwhelming margins) illustrates the "sheeple" principle.

I don't see things improving anytime soon.

I do not live in Iowa

I do. Harkin is untouchable. You can set your calendar by him. Every six years, he puts on his farmboy costume and leaves his Bahamas residence just long enough to convince the sheeple that he's one of us and cares about our problems.

Then, he wins, due in no small part to the terrible "opponents" fielded by the Republican party. If it wasn't for the fact that there were two conservatives running against one flaming RINO in the primary -- thus ensuring the RINO's victory -- we might have actually beaten the bastid last time. Instead, conservatives stayed home in droves, rather than get excited about voting for a sleazy, slimy, two-faced RINO lawyer. I still feel dirty for voting for him. But, that's how deep is my loathing for Tom "Dungheap" Harkin.

Iowans are fools for continuing to elect this traitor.

Unless something has changed since I last checked, Congress is brimming over with traitors. Iowans are no different than the rest of you.
