Both Chincoteague and Assateague are wonderful places to explore.......and even moreso now that tourist season is over.
There is absolutely no development on the Virginia side of Assateague other than new visitors' center/museum. Chincoteague is actually the largest city in this county (pop less than 4,000) and has wonderful shops and great restaurants.
The place we are going this afternoon is right on the channel and has a deck on the water. I love sitting at the bar there and watching the clam, scallop and fishing boats comeing in.
We're going to be heading out in about 10 minutes, because now that school is back in session we have to be home by 3:45 to meet the school bus.
I lived there, right on Main street a few blocks from the pony pens. The island is only 2 by 7 miles 'big,' so no one is really far from them!
Kevin had been born on July 1st, and the drive past my house was on the 21st, with my Steve, 15 months old, having a front row seat in his playpen on the front screened in porch.
I'm afraid I was at a definite disadvantage, seized in the wee hours with a fever of 104 degrees, alternating with chills....diagnosed as both a uterine infection and mononeucleosis - AND had to stop nursing Kevin, the latter transmittale.
I was in a world of hurts for three days until it broke...
I posted a lot of pictures of the swim and pens, Aqua, that day.
